Talking Thanks Mods!

Hey - I just wanted to send a 'Thank you' shout out to the Mods who removed the 2 seriously old stickies...

I asked that the 4 year old (and temporarily closed 2 years) Clownfish names and pictures thread (which hasn't hosted the pictures for years either) to be removed... as well as the Breeders Registry thread which also was no longer functional.

Thanks again!

Hi Kim,

Your welcome ;>)

We should seriously consider collecting some of our clown pic threads into a clown list......but big problem in the past, pictures hosted off RC frequently develop broken links and eventually go stale.

When the pictures are on RC, we can go through and edit them to restore the thread.

Ready to go to work?

Scott

Sure! I'll help! I'll post a thread asking for pictures hosted only on RC... see what I can come up with!

I have a couple of clown pictures that I could put into my RC gallery instead of my photobucket account, just will have to resize them.

Post picture links and names in the current discussion thread.

I'll insert later them in the first post of the other thread here:

*** Below is a copy of my thread describing what kind of information and pictures we are looking for. This way you can glance here without having to hop between threads. Eventually all pictures and information will be put in the thread that is Sticky'ed at the top... ***

Hi!

So as the title suggests I'm attempting to recreate a quick list of Clownfish Type and Pictures for an RC sticky to replace the old one that no longer functioned...

The problem with the old is that the pictures weren't hosted on RC and therefore couldn't be maintained. Here is what I'll need from you all. If you have pictures of any of the below Clownfish Types - please upload them to RC and post them in this thread. I'll then take the best few pictures of each type and try to compile it all in a few posts that can take the place of the old sticky. (By best I mean most clear, zoomed in... and I'll use as many as I can) I will give credit to each picture as to who's RC username they came from.

If anyone wants to help - great... If anyone has any ideas about what types of information should be included in the list other than... Scientific Name and Common Names just let me know. (Some thoughts are host anemones, color variations, availability...) I'm trying to make this informative but not too much work at the same time!

Anyway - below is a list I've come up with as the types I could find... (Note - I've never heard of some of these so I'm just going off information I could find on the web. If anything is incorrect or should be omitted or included - just let me know!) Please - any corrections or ideas - just post away. Then if you have any great pictures of any of the below that you can host on RC and post - that would be great!! Thanks - Kim

Todd - GREAT pictures - thank you!!!

sk8rreefgeek - GREAT pictures - but can you put them in your RC gallery rather than Photobucket so we can use them?

fwiw: we'll need to break the the main thread up into multiple posts to support all the pictures.

fwiw2: feel free to post the all the pictures here, but for the first cut, we'll try to focus on the ones that we can also use for species identification.

Okay?

No, thank you. Made me look busy at work resizing them and transferring them to my RC gallery.

Sounds good! Is there an easy way to make all the pictures a similar size in the main thread? Just to make it look nice? I was thinking just a few pictures for each type of clown.

Okay?
I think that's perfect! I was thinking once we get a few good ones for a few of the different types we could go ahead and put them in the main thread so people can see what it is we're striving towards... Then as we get the different types done I can post threads listing the ones we still need...

Sound good?

Think that might be hard, as you could see by mine, some had to be different sized to fit in the gallery. It depends on what settings your camera used too. Though I wish they all could be the same size, because that would look nice.

Yeah - I wondered about that. I forgot that it would depend on what setting you took the picture at. Good point. Oh well - wishfully thinking!

It doesn't matter - I think this is going to look great in the end...

I agree, it will still look great in the end, and that is all that matters.

Thinking out loud, could set up a photo bucket folder just for this -- just one persons, so that they would all be in one place. Only if they promised not to move anything. That way they could all be the same size. Again, just thinking out loud, and don't want to step on any toes.

I think in theory that sounds great - but I think that's what the original thread did and over the 4 years it was up that just didn't work. People came on and offered to host the pictures - they did and then after a year or so they would expire and wouldn't get put back up. I think the only way for this to really work long term would be to have them hosted on RC.

Please others chime in - I think everyone is just wanting to see this work. Myself I'm open to anything - but based on what Scott said and looking at the old thread - that's why I thought the pics needed to be held here on RC.

Now I'm just thinking out loud Todd!

Oh oh, Kim is thinking, better watch out.

But, you have a point, the pictures were re/moved and that is what caused the issue. The only worry I have about using the RC gallery is that the file sizes are smaller for non-premium members. I am really open to anything, just throwing ideas out.

I would be willing to host them, I don't plan on going anywhere. (( might even be willing to share the password so that a select few could also be in control. ))

Been there, done that, twice actually.... Not a chance ;>)

Even with the pictures all spread out in the RC gallery it could be a nightmare rebuilding the links with software change. At least it would be doable with brute force, unlike offsite hosting.

Over time, we should settle on a standard pixel size for such things, but we can actually recalibrate with link editing as time goes on.

For now, lets gather some representative candidates and shake out some of the folks that can actually take good pictures so I can remove my place holders of lesser quality
