I don't understand why no one cares about taxonomy anymore. I find many aquarists to be taxanomically challenged or incompetent and actually dont know any of the scientific names of the corals or fish they own other than perhaps the genus and even that's a stretch these days. I personally hate the name game and think it has destroyed some of the mystique of the hobby...

As far as taxonomy is concerned A.millepora,no matter what color,it is still the same species. We only give them colorful names to describe a certain color morph.

Yes? no?
The pink/blue piece in the picture I posted has those same colors when you take it out of the tank and look under standard lighting and in my tank most of bulbs are 10k. I sell frags here in Canada and as far as the name game goes, when you post on a site like "frags.org" for example it asks you for the taxonomy and to give it a "name" The name game is once again purpetuated.

Taxonomy is extremely important to hobbyist that truly love science. But in recent years tank care and success has reached a point where you don't need a thorough understanding of chemistry or biology to have success. We reached a point of buying just plug'n'play equipment. This has essentially broadened the scope of hobbyists and in doing so has resulted in people that just like the colors and are not focused as much on the science.

The limited edition corals we see today will not be so limited in the future. Since sps care has reached mainstream once difficult to care for corals are now grown with ease. The most colorful of these are then propigated further and sold at a high price but that will ween overtime. This "groundroots" movement will come to pass and be known more as a fad then of any great interest. But I could be wrong, as when I'm looking for a specific coloration I usually post the hype name to make sure I'm getting exactly what I went looking for. I personally have this "superman mille" that is beautiful in person. It has amazing contrast along with great polyp extension. Though pink and blue is not really superman esque it will help you catch a few extra dollars when selling.
