HELP ID weird sponge? Fungus?

I have had this white slimy substance growing on top of my rocks for the last month or so. Unknown what it is. Blows off the rocks fairly easy. Tank has been setup going on just over a year or so.

Let me know if you have any ideas. Only thing that has changed is my alk was slightly low.

Sponges tend not to be slimy and wouldn't blow off the rock easily. They also generally do not grow in well lit areas. My guess would be some sort of bacterial growth. Do you dose a carbon source?

None at all. Just run a skimmer and filter socks. Run some Gfo and carbon in a reactor. Any great ideas on how to get rid of it?

It could be a form of cyano or dinoflagellates. A drop in alk could cause either. Increase alk. Not sure what your water flow is but an increase in flow can help as well.

Is this a newer tank? Looks like dinos to me. If it blows off i would increase water flow. Skim wet, water changes, lights out for 3 days or longer if no corals, removes/suck out as much as you can. Have you tested po4?

I don't think it's dinos. I had those in a different system about a year ago. Po4 is check often with a Hannah checker. Usually .03-.07. I have a big skimmer that skims well. I have very good flow within the tank. Tank has been up over a year

Ben, any idea how to get rid of a bacterial may?
