I've used a couple of different brands. But this one is the most accurate.

What about compared to an equivalent sized DC pump?
Still trying to decide if I should replace my Mag 12 with a Mag 18 or something like a jaebo dc 12000
The oriface in the venturi is maybe 1/4". It's like pumping through a straw.

Ya, and I forgot about the fact that we adjust the flow with the gate valve. Doh.

Anybody have ideas on why my SVS2-24 would start outputting microbubbles badly. Was working fine then did a water change and now its kicking out bad microbubbles. Haven't seen this before.

I was hoping to purchase a lifereef for my 80g which is going to be a pretty heavily stocked SPS dominated tank, my question is which one should I go with? Would say, the SVS2-24 be too much on an 80g?

My SVS30-30 IN-SUMP was delivered yesterday. It's a nice looking piece of equipment. Now if I could only finish the darn stand.

24 should be fine... however, make sure to get the flanged version so you have the option to add extensions if you ever upgrade

Experiencing some random changes in water level lately.

VS3-36, external, Mag 12 external on a Mazzei. This pump/venturi/skimmer combo ran flawlessly when the pump was in the sump on my frag tank, but since I rebuilt my display I plumbed it externally in preparation for a pump upgrade to a Blueline (or other) external.

I keep the water level about 1/2-3/4" below the flange with the output hose terminating above the waterline in the sump, whether running or not. The return line is open ended, so no chance of it pulling a siphon and dropping the level. Sometimes, randomly...it will suddenly drop and water level will only be about 18". I have to turn it off, let it completely drain, then restart it and the water level goes back up to where it should be.

Any thoughts?

Post up some pics when you get it setup, then we'll talk
What pump are you planning on using?

jcolley, to me it sounds like the pump is failing. The Mag 12 seems pretty small for the 36" model. I know you mentioned it was working fine in the frag tank setup, but Jeff recommends a Mag 18 for the 36" body, and these skimmers are known to perform very well when you go 1 pump stronger than Jeff's recommendation. So the 36" body could potentially be at best with a mag 24 if in sump...

But if you're going to go external you should pickup one of the panworld/bluelines. I cannot remember the model numbers for the Blueline/Panworld external pumps, but Jeff recommends a Blueline 30HDX or 40HDX. What's everyone using on their external 36"ers again?

Ordered it with a Blueline 70. I know it is more pump than I need but they are easier and cheaper to valve back than replace the pump.

I run a Fluval Seas SP4 ( 1800 gph @ 0 ft of head) Its an AC pump that is as quiet as any DC pump

Here's a picture of the VS2-24 going into my 105 build. Just a week into the initial cycle. Using a Waveline DC-6000 on setting 5. The sump has 9.5" of water and the skimmer sits on a 4" stand.

Hey guys,

I picked up a used LR Sump. and an SVS 24 skimmer for my 50gal. This thing is loud! I'm gonna ditch the Mag 9 and have ordered one of the new sicce syncra pro 1000 pumps. I know it will help with pump noise, but I'm concerend about the venturi sound. The tank is in the living room, and next to a bedroom wall. Any other tips on quieting this beast down? Gotta keep the wife happy, especially if there's an upgrade in my future.

Thanks!

FYI you can run the skimmer with the outlet submerged

It shouldn't be loud. Was the mag 9 vibrating on the glass maybe? What noise are you hearing?

DC pumps are quiet and seem to have a good track record with the 24" and 30" LR models. A jebao dc6000 works well with the 24" LR. I use a 9000 on my 30" LR.

That being said, a mag9 should not be "loud" if it's running properly.

The skimmer shouldn't be loud, either.
Run the output at least partially submerged.
The venturi should be quiet, too. Unless.... it looks like you have the black rubber tubing which is what he uses when installing the optional Ozone Kit. This kit has a Tee fitting in the middle of that black tubing. I can't see it in your pic, but if that Tee fitting is there, sucking in air, it will be noisy. If this is the case and you don't have an ozone generator hooked up to it, I would plug that open end.

Yeah the one in my 60 cube is sitting in water that comes up to the top of the outlet. I wanted more water in this sump and had a stand for the skimmer so i raised it up.
