State Of The Hobby In Savannah, GA ?

I posted a little earlier about the dismantling of my 500g up here in New England. My next and hopefully, my last build, will be in Savannah, probably the Skidaway Island area. So how's it going down there? Reef clubs? LFS's? Who am I looking forward to meeting? Any advice appreciated.

1. Exotic Underworlds (Savannah, GA)

2. Coastal Aquariums (Richmond Hill, GA)

All I’ve found. Sorry, but it looks like you’ll be relying on LA Diver’s Den and online sellers more often than you’d like to. I hope you will find some way to make it work.

May I ask why you’re moving to Savannah, Georgia?

Just curious. I hope I’ll never have to be in a place where I’m severely limited when it come s to LFS and other resources for the hobby.

Ready to say goodbye to the cold, New England winters as well as the cold New England taxes. Also, Savannah is about equidistant between my extended family (Eastern North Carolina) and my wife's extended family (New Orleans, Louisana). And finally, I found it just a cool and beautiful area.

I wish you the best of luck with your move, but from what little info I was able to find, you’d be hard pressed to find any LFS in Savannah. You may see yourself relying more on LiveAquaria’s Diver’s Den and other online retailers for corals and fish.

Savannah is a stunning city, and I'm envious of the folks who live there... but have you considered Atlanta? It would put you several hours closer to many parts of NC, give you access to I-20, and we have a fairly healthy reefing scene here.

Edit: just saw your tank teardown thread, so I'm assuming Savannah is pretty final.

My daughter is currently in college in Atlanta, so I'm vaguely familiar with it. The main negative for me is the traffic...and I've lived in L.A. so I KNOW traffic! Plus, I'm not exactly a 'big city' kinda guy. In fact, I'm not even looking to live in the main areas of Savannah but more so the outskirts like the Skidaway Island area. So, yeah, apparently, I'll have to rely on online resources quite a bit, which is something I could live with. But I'm primarily concerned with the build itself. Not being much of a handyman myself, I was asking about any resources nearby that could be utilized in the event I decide to go custom. I'm certainly going to want help with the planning and intital installation,

Yeah, the traffic is pretty bad here. I can't say I'm too familiar with Savannah, honestly, as I've only been once (last October) but it was a wonderful place. I'm not sure how much local help you may he able to get, but the ARC (atlantareefclub.org) may be able to hook you up with some other south Georgia locals. Brunswick and Charleston/Hilton Head area are also nearby. You may want to take a look around there. Unfortunately that's all the advice I can give... I'd love to lend you a hand, but I'm 4-5 hours away!
