Tunze 5017 went nuts

Filled up my ATO reservoir yesterday, 9 gallon capacity. Got up this morning and went into the fish room like always, to check on things. Imagine my shock when I see that the reservoir is down to 6 gallons!

First thing I did was look in the sump and sure enough, the water level is several inches above the sensor, but not enough to set off the high level sensor. (the sensor is clean, nothing on it)

This is the first time I've ever had an issue in the 5 1/2 years that I've had it. Any opinions or fixes?

TIA!

My main hunch would be a siphon because the controller would stop a fill after 10 continuous minutes which generally limits it to 1.5- 3 gallons depending on head pressure and pump speed.

Check siphon situation 3

Thank you RV, That's a very possible situation. I'm going to adjust my tubing now so that won't happen again.
