montipora digitata that grows down
Is this normal or did I put this thing in upside down when I got it.
The branches you see growing upward are from a different frag. When I got these frags they were tiny 2 and 3 inch pieces. The one in the back always grows upward and the one in the front only grows down. Even if a branch starts to grow upward, it will eventually turn down. I’m just curious, I think it looks great the way it is Sorry about the pic, I can’t figure out how to upload pics without making them tiny under 50k. |

Maybe it's enjoying the water flow down lower? What ever it is that is some sweet growth patterns!

I have some that does this, to an extent, as well. I've noticed that it is very tolerant of low light, and seems to grow taller and stalkier in low light. My guess is that it may grow away from the light when it is really bright. Mine is sitting just below the water line directly under 175w halide lamps. What kind of light is over yours?

Ha! Finally, another Monti like mine! Mine grows in that type of pattern (out to the side and then down).
I think your Monti is fine. |

Here's a pic. You can see even when it was young it had already started to fan out and head down.

Have you ever given a frag to another local reefer. If so, is it doing the same thing?

Kewl...Mine is at the top under 250's and it doesn't grow like that so I'll have to guess it is from the flow.

its about 1 ft below 384watts of VHO (768 across the whole tank)
I have not shared frags but the ones that do break off grow the same way |
