Mp40 power supply replacement?

I was wondering if anyone has any idea if this power supply will work on the mp40s. It has the same specs and is $30 less than the one sold on the ecotech website.

Looks about right, just double check on the tip size. What's wrong with your power supply?

+1 to checking the tip size. I purchased a used MP40 and the seller had replaced the power supply with a generic size and it was too big. Turns out the MP20 has a different tip size than the MP40...at least on the older models.

My power supply died yesterday. I came home to a non working vortech. Ite getting ac power in, just not any dc volts out. It's a mp40w; I think it's about 2 years old, so beyond any warranty.

That's what happened to me. It seems that the power supply on these Vortechs are pretty weak. When I called their customer service, the best they can do is offer me to purchase a replacement unit for $30 plus shipping, and also to ship the old unit to them. After all the shipping costs, its better to just purchase a new replacement unit from them and forget about "customer service". I guess its better than nothing, but I'd expect components to last longer than 2 years for expensive $450 pumps. Oh well, next time I'd go with Tunze.

Look at the bright side, at least it put out more flow than a Tunze when it worked. Maybe Vortecs would not have fared so well if the flow tests would have been conducted over a lifetime.

Ah, yes but I run both tunze and ecotech in my tank and always have two of everything. Just not a spare power supply.

Just for anyone else who stumbles on this thread. The PS listed above is the wrong tip.

This is the correct model. Part number: 1950913

http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/sto...001_1950913_-1

The case is slightly larger, but other than that it is a perfect match for a lot less money.

Still going strong? I don't want to give ecotech any more money and I bet these are better quality than the junk ecotech power supply

I love reef central! one dead mp40 power supply replaced for less than 1/2 the cost of a new one from Ecotech! In less time than it takes to spell bryopsis!

Does anyone know the actual tip size? I'm looking for an extension cable from the power supply to the controller

Looks like Jameco has replaced that product with the follwoing:
http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/sto...gDrillDownView

Unfortunately it's backordered until 5/01/2017. Any other links to where I could find a replacement?

If you have the old ecotech power supply you can get any 24v 2.5A and splice the old connector end to the new power supply. I did that couple years ago and had no issue
