Alk test
Hello, Im a new and I have a question about the alk (KH) test (Landebao chinese test). On the manual, its writed to add 5 drops until the sample's colour turn into yellow.
Okay but when I add many drops only the top of the sample water turn into yellow and the bottom keep transparent. So I should follow only when it become yellow at the top or when all the water turn into yellow ? |

Not familiar with that test but I would guess you should gently swirl (not shake) the sample, then compare.

Sorry my mistake, its not 5 drops, but add drops as many as needed, each drop equal to one degree of hardness.
Okay I will try to shake after each drop and see. |

Okay, that's it, I have to gently swirl after each drop until colour turn into yellow, it was not writed on their manual...
So my alk is 7, is that okay for a newly started tank (17 days so far). |

need to keep alk stable applies once you start stocking it with corals, especially sps. are you still cycling your tank? if so dont worry about alk level yet.

7 dKH is fine. I wouldn't want the level to drop much lower in a tank with corals, but for a new tank, I wouldn't worry. This article might help:
