Skimmer Pump

Being broke as I am, I decided to buy one of those cheap off-brand ebay skimmers. Problem is, it is very unreliable. I'm not too worried about the skimmer design itself, as think the cheap pump is the problem. There just is not much air in the unit. Is there some massive, venturi pump I can buy that will make the skimmer work like it should?

did you try to adjust the air tube valve? Is it just not producing enough bubbles? The pump they used is probably rated for the skimmer no sense in changing it.

I adjusted the air tube valve. When I clean out the skimmer and unplug it, it fills up with wastes in 12hrs but if I leave the skimmer in the tank and just clean the waste unit, it never fills up again. very strange

it could be that something is getting sucked into your pump, does your pump have some cover or grill over it?

You could try these.....

http://www.aquacave.com/octopus-225f...pump-1705.html
http://www.aquacave.com/sedra-ksp-g-...pump-2725.html

You will save yourself a good bit of headaches if you replaced the entire skimmer...but in the meantime increasing your water change schedule will help keep nutrients at bay.

I'm just amazed someone actually manufactured a knockoff of the Seaclone....

thanks. I think I will end up just buying a new skimmer altogether with further thought since I am upgrading anyway. I said I was so low on money because I am putting it towards the 120 I am getting. What do you think would be a good skimmer for a 120? and I am doing 50% wcs every other week. everything looks great. the system now is a standard 29g but it will be gone in a few months
