How often does a BTA split?

Mine just split a few days ago, I haven't had the BTA too long, maybe 2 months. It took raw shrimp pieces every 2-3 weeks. It did hide for 2 days prior and 2 days after the split, now 2 BTA's are back out on the rock. Not sure if there is mouth pieces already but I assume not since it didn't eat the last time I offered shrimp. Any other things to look out for?
How often does this happen? I don't mind 2 but I don't think that I would want more nems.

All depends on the environmental conditions

Also once they split it seems like they are more prone to do it again

I have found that feeding nems promotes splits. I have not directly fed my RBTA (3x) for 2yrs and no further splits. NOTE, I also believe that large parameter changes (ie large water changes) can also induce a split.

Anything that stresses it can induce a split, new params, overfeeding can easily promote splitting.
