Refugium, skimmer, help!

I am in a slow process of building a 35 gallon shallow reef tank and stand with a unique cabinet design (to be revealed later).
It will have a 10 gallon tank as the sump.
I will be keeping mainly softies and some LPS in the system with mixed t5 and LED lighting
As for the sump I am debating on weather or not I want to make it one big refugium and have no skimmer; or put a skimmer and grow out only some mangroves in the display.
Let me know your thoughts and if you have any alternate ideas!
Thank you everyone!
