mushroom corals newbie

I am thinking of getting some mushrooms (Rodactis and Ricordia type). I understand that you can glue them onto a rock or frag disc...I got that part. Let's say if i want to glue them side by side or on separate small size rocks. They will grow overtime and take over the surface of the rocks completely, is this correct?

If it is, what happen if there is no more rock surface? will it spread down to the sandbed and affix permanently just like on rocks?

First you can glue them but it is way better if you let them settle themselves
I gess it could spread on the sand but it has never happened to me.

Generally no, they will detach and float around untill they attach somewhere else. While they could attach to sand (or glass, plastic, etc.) there would be nothing to hold them down and they would still float away looking for a new spot. When they run out of room in the middle of colonies they will do the same, generally the smaller will start to get shaded and show up somewhere else.
