Vertex Omega 130 skimmer

I just watched a video from MACNA 2013 and they were featuring the vertex Omega 130 and I was curious what everyone's thoughts on this skimmer is. Will it have the issue corrected that the Omega 150 has with balanced water/air flow?

It does look sexy and it's defintely up to standards with the rest of the Vertex skimmers.

Re-air/water balance

Hope so!
By the looks of it, its the same design. Since there are no specs on it yet, I'm wondering if they are using a modded sicce 1.5 for the pump. If its the same pump as the 150 with only a different size intake adjustment and NW then issues may still arise. We can only wait and see!

Easy fix, implement an air valve.

It has an air valve built in the venturi I believe.

I would like to see how it is compared to aquamaxx cones - co1. I almost purchase an aquamaxx cones until I saw a video from brs about vertex omega 130. I guess I would rather wait and see.

Ajreefs, says your video is private so it's unable to view.

I'm confused now actually, people said the omega 150 had to much air pumped into it to be balanced correctly, couldn't they just lower the air via the venturi as well? Or does the 150 not have the adjustable air valve?

s2nhle, might as well wait. You're going to have to wait either way since from everything I've read the Co1 is back ordered and none are available atm.

I would possibly love to own a vertex someday just to be able to personally be able to review their build quality that everyone raves about. Just curious but why don't they make a alpha series smaller than a 200g rated skimmer? I'm guessing the cost would be to high from a buyers standpoint to justify 500-700 dollars for a small skimmer.

Anyone have an idea of when these skimmers will be available to the public for sale or let alone more details on the skimmer?

I have the omega 150 and the alpha 170 yes it does have an adjustment for the air mixture just that many people missed it on the instructions lol! or don't read them at all. The adjustment is the inlet to the venturi which is the white pvc part screwed into the intake of the pump. Turning it clockwise or counter clockwise will fine tune how much air is drawn into the pump. The performance of these skimmers are great and yes there is a big difference in build quality.

same here!

what was the water/air problem of the omega150? too much water is pulled?

I like the omega 130 because it's the only skimmer in that category size that has the pump on the side, not inside the body.

Reef dynamics still makes skimmers this size with the pumps outside of the body.

I hope this comes out sooner rather than later. The Aquamaxx ConeS CO-1 has shown up on my radar. Luckily it's sold out. I'm not above buying both and seeing which one performs better.

While the coneS CO1 is the best performer I've owned, I'm still going to give the 130 a shot. I figure the 319 map will come down a little bit eventually, but it seems reasonable given the build quality.

I love Vertex products. It's definitely the one I would prefer; however, after researching the Aquamaxx as a stop gap until the Omega 130's debut I came to realize the ConeS CO-1 is a pretty beastly skimmer.

They seem to have done a lot of research to put together a nice package at a nice price. It's compact with easy access to the pump. The individual cones really seem to be cut the turbulence down and force the foam straight up the neck. The collection cup with the tapered neck and a handle is nice as well.

This thread has a nice review
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2305001

after 2 weeks it was pulling some nice goop on a 39 gallon system

It's currently sold out everywhere. I figured if I could get one in the meantime, I could just sell it when the Omega 130 comes out.

Why sell something that works? I have a jns sk2 which is the equivalent of aquamaxx co-2 in my 55g cube and it's a beast. It says a lot considering I have a Pov dc2 for my 150g. Love the dc2 but for the money, aquamaxx beats anything out there.
