Reeflo Sword Tail Noise
I am in the process of setting up a new 120. I have a Reeflo Swordtail in the basement with the sump. I figured with it being in the basement I would not be able to hear it. However I can definitely hear the hum of the pump a floor above it. It's similar to the hum of the hot water recirc pump on our furnace just a tad more quiet. Here are some pictures of the set up.
The Pump is sitting on a neoprene pad. I did have a small leak on the bolt and nut holding the volute together but that has since resolved on it's own. Is there anything I can do to make this dreaded hum go away? The output is 1.5 that Tee's into two 3/4 lines that go into the tank. The rerun lines are warped in neoprene wherever they come into contact with wood or the frame of the stand. Any ideas welcome.

I don't think it would. The piping is wrapped in neoprene where it comes into contact with anything. The noise is from the pump itself. Emailed Reeflo yesterday and they said it is most likely a bad unit and it sounds like they are going to exchange it. Just waiting to see how this all plays out in regards to shipping. Do they cross ship or do the mail me an empty box and I wait for a refurb or what?
So far they have been pleasant to deal with.

Tagging along for the ride. I was just about to pull the trigger on a Swordtail. I think I'll wait and see how your experience plays out There's not a lot of info (good or bad) out there from other Swordtail owners.

If it is a bad pump then there would be nothing you can do other than the obvious. My suggestion for dynamat doesn't have anything to do with contact but more the resonant frequency of your home especially when the piping is run through walls. Sometimes the hum of an external pump can be amplified by some homes. Since you didn't mention thinking your pump was bad this would be a logical step though not one often used in the hobby.

In my past experience with Reeflo, they have always taken care of me. I called and explained that the bearings on my dart gold were getting very noisy. They sent out a new pump to me the following day, I believe I paid 40 bucks for shipping and that was it, since the pump was still under warranty.Once the pump showed up I installed the new one and shipped the bad one back. They even have done this for me on more then one occasion, and one of the pumps was a used dart gold that I was not even the original purchaser and I had bought the pump used, definately says something about them as a company. They are one of the few companys that I have dealt with that are willing to take care of the customer first. Im sure they will take care of you. Its the only pump Id even consider buying nowadays. Which is why I am gonna run 2 of the dart golds on my new system in the works.
