Ok, I always wanted to do a Reef tank but always listened to everyone saying it was real hard to setup and maintain, and most of all real expensive. Well at least one thing was right, the expensive part. I have done fresh and a salt fish only tank, but never had the nerve for a reef tank. Well I finally did one and I am glad I did. I started out what I think is small, 40gal. , but I think this is a good learnig size. I dont think I could bear setting up a large tank and learning on it, just to expensive. So I did allot of research online and asking friend and LFS, and came up with my setup. It's not top of the line but I think overall it is a well rounded system. This is my tank setup:
40gal acrylic tank CPR90 hang on the back overflow ( Eshopps rs-100 sump ASM mini g skimmer ( works great - yes even the pump ) Rio+ 2500 return pump ( very quiet pump, and so far no problems) 1 marineland 900 powerhead Coralife aqualight 36" 192 watt 1 300 watt heater ( never use it ) aqualifter for the overflow to prime it in case of power outage 1/10 JBJ chiller ( on its way - summer is going to be hot this year ) As far as the life goes, well take a look for yourself. See my photos. Now this has led me in to some trouble, because I just aquired a 125gal tank with complete stand, sump, lighting, and a few other items for really cheap. Well I dont need to tell you where that is going...... Anyways check the photos out, sorry couldnt post the high res images. |
