,,Nuclear Winter,, deep sea aquarium

This topic is where i describe the building of my aquarium. The name ,,Nuclear Winter,, i choose it after somebody told me that the new aquarium i want to build with cold water, darkness and no rock into the diplay will look like hell compared to the warm water ,colorfull and verry well lighted reef aquarium i had to disasemble .I couldnt name the deep sea aquarium ,,the hell aquarium,, but i got instead with ,,nuclear winter,,.This build is about a pelagic aquarium with cold water and darkness in wich i will keep deep water fish(bioluminiscent) and ctenophores(also bioluminiscent ) together.I choose to build the aquarium from glass instead of acrilyc plastic because glass is much more resitant to scratches and i plan to keep this aquarium on for a long time because the deep water fish i want to keep in it have verry long life span.Making it from glass was a real pain and i had to invent new techniques of building an aquarium but in the end it will worth the effort.I post a few pictures with the project that had a modest start. the ctenophore specie i want to keep as pets. They are beautifull but should be illegal to own or sale for hobbysts.Reason is because they can destroy a non native to them ecosystem.I dont encourage nobody to keep these as pets and i will not give details about what food they eat ,how i prepare the food and stuff. The deep water fish that i want to keep into the aquarium. In the future i also think to keep otther deep sea fishes like from the mycthopidae family. the humble begining. After i buyed the glass i grilled this deep water fish to honour the starting of the project .https://s22.postimg.org/5br2ia269/P1010988.jpg

Re

After a year i finally glued all the glass bits together and the aquarium looks like this.Sizes are one meter X 15 cm width. The inner circle is the display and has like 70 cm width.Glass is 10 mm thick and is a litle green because of the iron content that in my opinion makes it harder than the verry clear ,,cristal ,,type glass. My assumption is based on the fact that this greenish glass is much heavy than the cristal glass so i assume is more dense and harder but im no glass specialist and i might be wrong.

So you will look at each individual piece of glass? How will it hold together? Feel like with that many seams it would tear apart.

It is a hard to buil project but all is ok.Thoose glass bits are completely enclosed in silicone not just glued and it is a verry strong build. There are also reinforcements on the edge with more added glass so that the center circle wich is the display sits on the reinforcements.

Meanwhile until the aquarium construction is done il have another deep sea fish for lunch.Tub gurnard. It wasnt catched by me .Im always prepared to release these when i go fishing in case i catch one, mostly because of the spikes but also because i consider its too beautifull to be eaten .

Thx.The ambition is big but isnt too complicated project just is something that nobody done before and i dont have manny sources from where to get an advice when needed.Ive just painted the back pannel of the aquarium dark blue grey and im still working on the stand. The front of the display must keep dark inside when the lights gets on in the room and ive thinked to use a smart film to cover the display. Its just a liquid crystal plastic like phones and tv have, that looks transparent in the dark but gets dark and opaque when is fired by a light sensor.I am thinking that it isnt clear enough thogh and that it will distort the immage in the display.Somebody have experience with this made in china PDLC films ?I am also thinking at a soird of a huge diapragm like on photo cameras, instead of the smart film, that will be closed and opened by a motor thats conected to a light sensor to keep the dark inside.

The suport of the aquarium is almost ready. Its made from massive iron beams and a thick steel plate (half an inch thick).[IMG] And this is how the Nuclear Winter looks right now.The back paint got stained so i might take it off and apply another coat. This is the aquarium that will fit into that steel suport.
