33g Greenleaf Rimless Build

I've begun working on the setup for my new tank! It's a 33g 25 x 18 x 18 from Greenleaf, with a 17g from the same company for a sump.

Currently I'm building the stand. I can only work on it one day a week as I have to drive an hour and a half to use my grandfather's garage (he has all the tools). The following pictures are 2 days worth of progress.

Credit to Schmaus for the stand's design. He is the superior craftsman anyway

The structure is oak with plywood shelves for the display and sump. Thin birch panels will be held onto the structure with magnets to allow for easy maintenance (also Schmaus's idea!).

I'll be adding a small compartment at the top of the sump area to keep electronics separate from the humidity. I'm not sure how effective it will be, but it'll give the area a cleaner look too so why not.

I'm going to paint the whole thing black to fit the black and white theme in my apartment.

P.S. Can anyone explain to me how to embed an image within my text rather than at the end?

Nice!!!! I am thinking about getting a smaller green leaf tank for this summer. I will be setting up a smaller tank for my clowns and blue spotted Jawfish, so I can take them with me when I am away this summer.

Hey sorry for the late response, I didn't see your reply until today. I always wanted a blue spotted jawfish, but they're such good jumpers I'd have to put a mesh top on, which would ruin the rimless look I'm going for

Here's an update of my progress so far. Painted a couple layers. Interior, beneath the panels, will be white. Exterior will be glossy black.

The sump is pretty much done. My Vertex In100, Eheim 1250, and DJ powerstrip showed up in the mail. More stuff to come on tuesday!

I've had an elos, and this is just as good IMO. Were they fair priced?

Also, your eheim return pump, is the top where the water returns the water to the display threaded or slip?

Seemed fair to me. The 33g display was 170 or 180, the 17g I used for the sump was 80.

The eheim came with adapters so you can go either way. I have the slip on there at the moment.

i love the stand....

I like aquascape #1... You have both a cave and a bridge. I created a bridge with my tank and my tang loves swimming under it. I wish I would have created a couple of caves...

Fishdude - the sump is 23.6'' x 11.8'' x 14.2'' (60cm x 30cm x 36cm).

The tank's ready to go except for lighting! I'll be ordering the LED components within a few weeks.

Thanks! It's half inch conduit from home depot, painted with black latex paint. I have it on brackets that allow it to rotate, so I can swing the light away from the tank for maintenance

Tank's been cycling for a couple weeks now and my LED fixture is just about to complete, I'll take some pics as soon as it's done.

I started testing today and I'm a little bit confused. My 2 week old water, made with a nice RO/DI filter, is showing both high hardness and calcium. Reef crystals brand salt. I thought that wasn't chemically possible. The numbers are 11dkh and 520ppm ca. They're API test kits purchased just a few days ago. What do you guys think of that?

Joe... good to hear things are coming along. Your water issue puzzles me as well. Have you tested your RODI water prior to mixing? Also are you running the RODI filter about 15 minutes prior to using the water? I know the issue I had was caused by not "bleeding" water through the filter prior to using it. I ended up with an acrylic tank from Advance Acrylics as I couldnt get GLA to respond to me regarding when the new batch of 33g's were coming in... and I am the inpatient sort lol....
