Help tuning in my BK double cone 200

Hi I know it hasn’t been in long but just wanted to check in doing ok.

I have had my double cone 200 rd3 skimmer in for 24hrs, the pump is on 30w, skimmer is sat in 21.5cm of water and the wedge is at potion show in pic, do I need to adjust anything or just leave it for now?

Thanks Tim

Let it run for a few days check your roommate production. It takes time to break in.

Hi thanks for the reply, I have had no skimate produced from it so far, the foam doesn’t go any higher than the cup neck as in the picture.

Cheers Tim

The foam is half way up the cup now with the wedge half closed. But I only have large bubbles popping and no fine foam, is that just oils etc on the skimmer?

Cheers Tim

What speed is the pump set to? Scott finally convinced me to turn mine down and the foam is much thicker. You'll need to close the wedge pipe more though. JP

Hi it’s at 32w, I closed the wedge up to half way tonight and it’s started to to produce a fine foam now and the bubbles are going in to the cup now.

What speed do you run your pump at?

Cheers Tim

You need to give it some time. I would back down to 30 watts. Adjust the wedge pipe so the line where bubbles turn to foam is at the base of the white collar where the cup attaches to the body.

What do you have in your tank as far as fish and how long has the tank been up and running?

It’s a relatively light load for that skimmer but a bit of adjusting along with allowing it to break in will get you on track.

I run mine at 25W. The wedge is a little more than 3/4 closed but the skimmate is dark and the worst smelling of any skimmer I've ever had. JP
