Skimmer wont settle down after using putty

I used some coral putty to hold some frags in place last Saturday. Ever since my BM skimmer seriously over flows even when set to the lowest setting. This has happen before with same putty but not for 3 to 4 days straight? I've placed a hose on the drain plug and ran skimmer for a day doesn't get any better. What can I do to get my skimmer working again?

Time. I've had the "overflow" issues last up to a week. It will eventually clear.

Guess I'll wait and test it everyday to see. To top things off I had issues with my algae scrubber and then a rock slide. Took nearly four hours redoing my rockwork hate this hobby sometimes but at least its way better looking now ha.

Use Tunze Coral Gum Instant next time. It doesn't make your skimmer overflow.

Could do a nice water change to get some of the residual stuff out of the water.

this was my thought as well. a water change and running some carbon should help get rid of anything in the water that is causing your skimmer issues.

Best is to simply raise/adjust the skimmer as needed to get it to skim wet.. Change the cup often and it will eventually settle down... adjust as needed at that point..

Try lowering the water level in the sump and see if that helps. Same thing happened to me once.

I usually just leave the drain plug open, letting the water drain back into the sump. When I notice that the water is no longer draining, I close the drain plug.

+1

This will keep oxygen levels up as your skimmer is still running until it settles.

Also, try to raise the skimmer slightly in the water, maybe 1" raise might calm it down.

if it's still overflowing at the lowest setting, take the skimmer cup out and let it sit a little crooked on the skimmer, that way some of the waste can make it to the cup and some bubbles can escape the skimmer neck at the same time. That will fix the problem
