new tank build 40b

I just picked up a 40b from petco today and it is time to start a new build thread like all the cool kids do so here we go! it's going to be a slow build with work and kids and what not but I figure taking my time i'll get everything i want and the way i want it.
I'm panning on a 40 over 40 setup, gla$$-holes overflow, jbj oceanpulse wavemaker, marcorocks rock, undetermined LED, undetermined controller, bubblemangus skimmer like a bm-105, mag 7/9 return pump, nextreef carbon reactor, and an airwaterice rodi system. I'll be building the stand/canopy this week maybe next and we'll see where we end up. I welcome as much input as i can get on the whole processheavy on the controler and LED set-up.

I know they are pricey but I am loving my AI Vegas. Plus they now have the customizable pucks if you want to get uv, purple, yellow or other led's. As far as controller, what I you wanting to be able to do with it?

I have been looking at the vegas but also the reefbreeders photon series, I'm still not completely sold on the leds but I do like the adjustability. as for the controller its really going to depent on the final decision on my lighting.I was an electrician so wiring my stand to have all the outlets/switches/timers i want isn't an issue. but since i am on call 24/7 and travel quite a bit I do like the idea of getting updates and alerts on my phone so i could then instruct my wife or son on what needed to be done to correct the issue. I really havent done any research on what can be done with one.

On my 40b setup I run the reef breeders and da reef keeper controller I have a mixed reef mostly sps and the reef breeders leds have been awsome for the past five months and I am very happy with them .

I have a 38 gallon nuvo nano with an Ecotech Radion Pro light system above it. I love it. Granted, some people think it's a little overkill, but I mainly like it because I can program it with my mp10 powerhead. I also know a guy who swears by PacificSun LEDs, but I've never tried them. I just know I love my Radions

with the photons would one 16 be enough or would it take two? I have the same question about the vegas.

I would suggest at least a 24. It's only a few dollars more.

I doubt it very highly. Especially if you want sps.

A 110Tall (48x18x30) I was going to go with a single 32" fixture, but wouldn't get the PAR I need for SPS down low. I think the way people have them figured, they have about a 4" spread to each side. So a 24" should have around a 32" spread. My two 16s, set around 6" apart, should work nicely.

You can always contact Logan with Reefbreeders (If you can get through to him) and see what he suggests.

i would think with a 40b one 24 would be enough but i've never ran leds so I'm not sure what they can and cannot do

just got an email back from Logan and he has confirmed that one photon24 with 90* optics would be good for a 40b. as of right now that is the plan but im still looking into all my options

I know right. I need to get a 29 for my sump I was planning a 40 over 40 but a 40/29 set-up is just seeming to be a better idea all around.

I wish they sold larger tanks under the $1 per gallon sale, or larger tanks period. I think I could do a 500 gallon tank if I only had to pay $500 for it

I'd just like to see them include the 75's that sit on their shelves for years at a time!

They only sell up to 55's in the Stillwater store. They can get up to 120, but it has to be special ordered. My husband is in a nano craze right now though, so we're buying bunch of nuvos that are 38 gallons and under. My house is going to look like a mini fish store by the time he gets done I think...lol. No complaints!

I'd like to start by stating Minnesota has a new coolest reefer in the great white north!

Thank You Paul and HighDefCorals.com
and now onto the update of my tank build

I found some doors as well but my hands and back hurt already so I'll be finishing the top and facia later this week, I also bought a 29g tank for my sump so i'll be getting some glass cut for baffles. then it's on to a couple coats of paint and waiting for mamma to turn loose with some more money. not too bad so far.
