Question for the shark raisers
As a birthday gift last month my parents thought I would love a shark egg for my tank. My parents, being freshwater enthusiasts, had no idea that my tank was not big enough and the LFS wouldn't take it back. I decided I would hang on to it till my brothers predator tank was fully cycled and he could have it. BUT, the pup has hatched already and it has a marble sized yolk still attached to it and I am worried for its own health. I put it into it's own hospital tank with filter on it but don't know what else to do to ensure its health. Does anyone have any suggestions or should I tell my brother it's going to pass away?

Feed it some sort of chopped seafood and It won't die. It will take sometime for the shark to grow

Should I be worried about the fact it is outside of the purse with a marble sized yolk?

Don't worry about the yolk. Is there anything else in the tank? If it still has the yolk let it be. Once the yolk is gone then worry about feeding it. Do you have a picture?

It is sitting inside of a quick hospital tank completely by itself

Unfortunately the only spare tank I had was a 10 gallon, so it is sitting in there with a Marineland Emperor 280 with double filter cartridges and added in a small bag of carbon, I dug up and added a 50 watt heater, floating thermometer, and an Aqueon LED setup.

DO NOT FEED IT!!!
It needs to absorb the yolk sac prior to taking food. Your best bet it to get a floating fry basket/cage or a Critter Keeper type box and keep the shark protected. Keep a very close eye on the yolk sac. If it gets twisted for too long or starts to show signs of infection, you may have to take action. Also, you might not need the heater. I would make sure it's very protected so the shark doesn't burn itself.

I've covered the heater and filter intake with some PVC piping cut in half and checked the levels for it. It's still doing well, being pretty active still. The yolk is a little smaller already and the black bands have darkened compared to last night as well.

That is actually a really good idea. I'll find something so I can do that for it.

So I went ahead and put the baby into a wine glass and put some mesh from a fish net over it held on by a rubber band. Unfortunately, some how it managed to crush it's own yolk and died. I appreciate all of you pitching in the help and ideas to try keeping it alive.

Sorry to hear. Sometimes, no matter what you do, you lose out when it comes to young sharks. They are far harder to deal with than the adult counter parts.

I know that I can't support a shark, and I know I won't be able to for quite some time. But it gave me some reasoning to look up and research about them which was nice.
