The "zebra" is actually Echidna polyzona. It's a smaller eel than a zebra, but it should still work out fine. It is similar to a snowflake.

Not the greatest pic in the world, but here is my Gymnothorax favagineus (tesselata moray) I had for a few years. Awesome, very aggressive eel.

My funebris is 5ft long, give or take a few inches, and as thick as my leg.

My buddy still has the tesselata I sold to him, pictured above. Its Nearly 6 ft now. He is in a 500 gallon custom tank, with a couple of other very large eels. I will see about getting a recent pic.

If I had to guess I'd say that"s G. isingteena and not favagineus....

As far as I know, the Gynothorax Isingteena has not yet been seen in the trade. However, if and when they are available, it would take a well educated eye to distinguish the difference between this picture of G. Isingteena, from the G. Favagineus.

found a 6" snowflake at an LFS, if im correct they naturally eat crustaceans in the wild so a fish bigger than its mouth is safe from a gruesome death? im thinking of putting him (if i get it) in a 55g with my niger, maroon, and possibly a dwarf angel or two (thinking flames). any obvious problems besides bioload? all the fish currently are over 3 inches and all the fish ill add will be 2 inches or more. if i get him i was planning on putting him in a 10g QT until i train him to frozen and he grows some.
thanks for the help. |

The great thing about that SFE that you found is the size. They are awesome when they are that small, so enjoy the moment. I've owned one a while back, got him small and he was great, as he grew so did my dislike for him. Eventually I gave him back to the LFS. I love eels but won't ever own another SF, but that's just me.

A LFS by me has a Brazilian dragon eel ($160), and said he would be fine with my stars and stripes puffer (6 inches). I thought I would ask here first though. He is a really cool eel though.

Okay, I'm in
Nothing major, just a wolf eel I'm wanting to put my yellow belly dog face puffer in with it too, any problems there besides the feeding needed? Current tank is a 55 with a upgrade to a 110 or 125 shortly.

Lisa's Brazilian dragon goes after puffers, but mine just went after everything after I'd had him for a couple years. He ended up getting his own tank because he wasn't compatible with other fish.

My understanding is that Isingteena is indeed in the trade (at least stateside). Favagineus has sharper features, and it's dots are finer and evenly distributed. Isingteen has a squarish, blulky features, and has blotchy, irregular patterns. I've had a few "tessy's" and I always thought there were two different species; fishbase seems to back that up. Just my thoughts; Moray eel taxa is such a mess that I could be wrong. Favagineus on the left, Isingeena on the right. |

My ghost eel. 18" about? I have had him for about two months. I really like him. Keeps his body hidden with his head out most of the time but on feeding days he is all over the place. |
