is my BTA dying?
I added this BTA to my tank about a month ago. After the first day it looked normal with semi-elongated bubble tipped tentacles. I've feed it twice so far, both times I feed it a small piece of squid. over the past week its tentacles have shortened into small balloons and it avoids direct light, preferring the shaded back corner of my tank. On one side the tentacles have turned a neon green color. This is my first BTA so I am not sure how to gauge it's health, it just doesn't seem happy.
I have it in a 30 gallon tank with 250W metal halide (19K double ended) The tank is a year old; sparsely populated clownfish x 1 tiger tail x 1 turbo snail x 4 hermit crab x 2 conch x 1 GSP, flower pot, and Cyphastrea corals 1.026 specific gravity (refractometer) 0 NH2 (API kit) 0 NO2 (API kit) 0 NO3 (API kit) bta-4.jpg bta-3.jpg bta-2.jpg bta-1.jpg |

It doesn't look like it's dying. BTA's tend to have round bubble tips when they're not hosting and long tips when they're hosting. May be it's a sign that it's going to split. Good luck.

It doesn’t look like it’s dying but definitely not a prime-status healthy bta to me. One month should be enough for it to settle well in a suitable tank. Keep an eye on it see how it goes for the next couple of weeks. If it remains like this or gets better, it’s probably ok to keep everything as it is. If it gets worse (such as even shorter tentacles, etc), then something is off.

Just keep everything stable for it, small and frequent water changes.
The light is kinda too strong for it “just my thought” maybe you can rise up the light a bit and see, just a little at a time. Otherwise, stability is key. |
