Gem Tang ( Zebrasoma gemmatum )
I am thinking about getting one , does any one in the bayarea currently have one in their tank ?
How does it look in real life I wonder, maybe I can come by to take a look ? I heard that someone in los gatos have one but had lost the number . If you have or know someone who has, please let me know, thanks |

I had one before but it fully recovered and its appearance faded out.
Don't know anyone who has it now but few of the stores used to carry some ($400), but that was so long ago, those stores no longer exist. They look pretty (just like the pic) but not pretty enough for me to justify its price. |

It's a nice looking fish. A friend of mine use to keep a few of them in his tank. I've never seen them for $400 though. The cheapest I've seen them sell for was around $700-$800 and this was roughly 9 years ago. I think you can expect to pay upwards of $2000 for one nowadays. Liveaquaria had a couple listed on their site a few months back. It was on sale for a "bargain price" of $2300 if I remember correctly.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry, obviously I failed miserably with my attempted humor.
I was just trying to say that a tang had ich and resembled the gem tang lol. The gem tang I saw in person was at least 20yrs ago. Very rare and very pricey. |

Well that all depend on who 's wife it is.
I paid more than that for a fresh water fish and it normal for those who know what type of fish it is before . This was before I got into reef and gave up the fresh water side. However, the fish actually gain value and was resell more than triple what I paid for it. |
