What type of nem is this?
My lfs has this super hot pink nem. This thing literally glows even in the dark, it’s not something I’ve seen before. I know it isn’t dyed as he isn’t that type and he is refusing to sell it until it splits....
Any ideas? |

Why is everything super blue and then the clowns color is white balanced? I find that extremely odd actually.
Anyways it looks like a E. quadricolor, most likely a bleached red.

Nope that is an actual pic from my iPhone and is exactly what it looks like in person. There is no light above it, as you see the light above it is off . Only a halide and a reef brght strip is on and the halide is on the side of it. I can take another pic when I go this week |

It's a bleached BTA, it should become more red.
Only BTA's commonly split BTW

Very interesting.
It very well could be dyed btw, your LFS guy may not know the difference and he may have gotten it from a bad supplier. I'm not saying that it is, just that I wouldn't trust a LFS when it comes to anemones because most of them don't know what they're talking about (IME of course). For now I'm saying bleached E. quadricolor.

A bleached RBTA typically looks pink just like this, no dye needed.

Pretty sure it's a "selective color filter" the sand has the same color below the nem. Also, the shadows won't alter when changing the light balance...

Possibly bleached, but I don’t think so in my experience anyway. He’s had it for quite a while now, so time will tell and it isn’t going anywhere since he said it isn’t for sale. He said an offer of $600 was made.
If anyone in the area wants to see it in person it’s at The Fishstore in Port St Lucie, FL off of Bayshore Blvd. |

Lol ok I’ll take a video of it when I get some food on Tuesday. Why would I photoshop or use a filter on a nem at an lfs that isn’t even for sale... also it’s a bare bottom frag tank. Silliness |

Most likely a bleach BTA. Maybe it's something rare that we haven't seen.

The fact there is white clearly shows it's bleached, no such thing as a healthy white host anemone.
It's obviously a bleached RBTA regardless what your LFS thinks or is telling you

A lot of people that have been in the hobby for many years often still do not know a lot about anemone's, and that even goes for LFS owners and employees.

I guess the fact that more people didn't immediately know what this was means we are doing a better job of keeping and transferring BTAs.
As Dave has said several times, this is a common rose BTA that has bleached for one reason or another. Water temps above 84 degrees is a common reason, as is lack of proper light. I hope your LFS owner thinks he just got a rare anemone by mistake or luck and didn't pay more than normal RBTA wholesale price for it.

I can’t remember where it came from either a maintenance account in Miami or a wholesaler down there, as he had some nems. He’s been in the business about 15 years and had a shop previously also worked with the guys that run wwc. I would think he knows a bleached bta from a rare nem... also passing up a $600 offer for a bleached bta is pretty dumb lol At any rate I’ll keep watching it and perhaps he will let me go see an underwater pic with my phone. |
