Chinese box shocked me today!

While making adjustments on my frag rack I noticed a little zing when I placed my hand in the water. I thought for sure it was my Hydor wave makers, I had one short on me last year. While investigating I came to the conclusion that when a part of my body touches the box and then I touch the water I would get shocked. anyone else have this experience? or something similar? the box is about 12 inches from the top of the tank (14in from the waterline). I have been thinking about going back to T-5's

Dont be so sure that the light is the problem...
The chassis is hopefully grounded and as such is simply the ground connection required to complete the circuit...
The problem could still be in the tank..

If not gfci protected its better to not have a ground probe.

The only valid use for a ground probe is to cause the gfci to trip the instant a fault develops...Without one the equipment stays live until you become the path to ground and trip the gfci

I concur with mcgyvr on both post, too many times we blame our lights for shocking us, when they are just providing a grounding path.

A ground probe takes any stray voltage to ground. Really has nothing to do with a gfi.
