Quarantine tank set up.
I had a outbreak of ich and my tank has been fallow for 6 weeks and I want to start quarantining 2 clowns while I wait the last few weeks. I have a 5 gallon storage container that I want to use for my quarantine. I have a heater, powerhead, and going to borrow a small pico filter.
How should water changes be performed? And is it a wise idea to use my foam filter in my display and put it in the quarantine tank filter to provide some biological filtration? |

Don't transfer any ich infected item from your display. Also if you try to set up a tank now it will cycle and you will loose your clowns. A QT tank should be a cycled and stable tank. If you want to start QTing your fish start that tank now at least with a power filter and let it cycle. Or you could start it up with h2o from your display, get everything running, put like one shrimp pellet in it per week and let it stabilize. Sometimes I put a couple hermit crabs and snails in to keep mine running and then transfer them to my display before I add a new fish to QT. Good luck and remember - go slow!!!!!!!!!!!

My tank has been fallow for six weeks so I do not believe that it is still ich infected. I am going to wait 3 more weeks just to make sure but I am setting up the QT tank soon so once the display is ready the fish should be too.

my advice is to keep them in qt for more than 2 weeks
fish can carry ick or other stuff and show absolutely no signs of it just my poor opinion that comes from a bad experience:-( |
