Hmm,

Here's the description of Cube Garden MINI S tank from ADG in Houston:
http://www.adgshop.com/Cube_Garden_MINI_S_p/102-864.htm

This site does not mention about its construction being one piece. I checked ADA's and other Japanese retailers' websites for the construction as well. ADA did not talk about the particular construction of Cube Garden Mini Series tanks on their Japanese website, but a retailer's site mentioned that the glass plates are assembled by applying a fortified clear silicone sealant on the seams very thinly only where the glass plates meet so that the tank appears seamless.

i dont know why the guys says the cube gardens are one piece. that article was probably written years ago and back then they may have been called that. The one piece tanks do exist. and its pretty easy to tell the difference between a really neat seam and no seam. go look in the book, its definitely one piece, i'm not making this up. lol...

I looked a little further on ADA's Japanese site and found that Cube Garden Superior was something close to what you were talking about. These tanks are made by the German craftsman. Although a few other people seem to think that these tanks are made from a single piece of glass, they are not. The glass plates are fused directly together with each other at the seams so that they look seamless. These tanks might have been produced at one time from a single piece of glass as you suggested, but a curved or a bent glass plate usually has some distortion at the curve or the bend. ADA might have opted for the fused splicing technology possibly for this reason.

Speaking of ADA I love the solar series 250watt light fixture but at 1099.00 i think i will stick with an AquaMedic Oceanlight but i love the design.

Great pics of ADA stuff guys!

I'm also a huge fan of rimless. All my SW tanks have been rimless. Something about rimless makes you feel that the water/corals/fish are really in the room with you, and not enclosed in a box.

For my new tank I went with an ADA 90-P. I had a friend drill one of the short sides and install a very small overflow box. The tank is beautifully made, with nice dimensions and great seams. The tank itself was close to $400, not too bad, but the shipping kills you!

Here's an old pic, but the seams show up pretty well:

I would assume a diamond tipped hole saw and a lot of care.

Yep, that's pretty much it. The tanks are low-iron, like Starphire, and this apparently makes them more difficult to drill. But this guy had drilled about 8 ADA tanks previously, so I was comfortable letting him drill mine.

FWIW, ADA says their tanks are not drillable.

Why is low iron glass more difficult to drill?

I finally stocked . . . da Artsy-Cube

I still have the GSP ring and one fish to add. Nothing else will go in there.

Here are a few photos

Before Stocking

The tank above is low-iron and as you can see, I drilled teh hello out of it. I did not notice any differences at all. However, it was only 1/4" glass, so thinker glass my present other problems.

Nonetheless, I used a hand drill and the same diamond tipped hole saws that I have used with traditional glass.

Cheers

I'm still trying to talk you out of the green star polyps. How about ricordia?

I like the SPS glued to the column.

It's kind of fun hearing people debate design styles again. (I haven't heard that kind of talk since architorture school!) I am completely sick of the postmodernist/revival/country/overblown crap we have to choose from here in the states and I'm happy to see some more enlightened minimalism becoming available! When my ship finally comes in, it will have one of these tanks on it!

CamBarr- those are some nice tanks, but they look a bit neglected. Someone hasn't mowed the lawn in a long time
