Here are a couple of pics of my Nuvo 38 with one AI Sol Super Blue 5" ABL. I used two nano mounting brackets and it fits great side to side. I did a little modding to make it work right but I like it. I really like my Sol so far. My strongest setting right now is W 40 B 30 RB 30. I have had it set up for a couple of weeks and most everything is doing great. I agree with a previous poster that you can replicate almost any look you want as I prefer the whites a little stronger than the blues for my strongest setting. I did replace the 40 degree with all 70 degree. I love the controllability of these lights. The pictures do not do the tank any justice, it looks much more colorful in person. I am working on different settings to make it look closer but I'm not close.

Since this thread is about Aqua Illumination LED's I won't go into my supplementation regiment, which is an entirely different can of worms altogether. I will say that each of us has most likely worked long and hard to find the correct brand and the correct dose levels that work for our individual tanks. Tank Specs: Length: 6 feet Depth: 27" Width: 18" external 17" internal Highest Live Rock Point in Tank: 12" from bottom of water surface. This is for swimming space for my larger bodied fish. Light Position: 7" from top surface Number of Units: 6 AI SOL Blue (running front to back) (2 units per/every 2 feet, spaced 6" apart) Now here is where we seem to get into the "alchemy" of any type of lighting we choose to use. Daily Lighting Schedule: (using the last four months "T" stands for timer) T1: 0 white/0 blue/4 royal blue 6am to 8am T2: 35/white/40 blue/55 royal blue 8am to 11am T3: 90 white/75 blue/95 royal blue 11am to 5pm T4: 5 white/6 blue/15 royal blue 5pm to 6:30pm (feeding time) T5: 0 white/0 blue/5 royal blue 6:30pm to 8:30pm T6: 0 white/0 blue/2 royal blue 8:30pm to 10:30pm LIGHTS OUT... Please note that I did not include any ramp times, but my goal is to ease each timer into the next. The main point is what I run my brightest mid-day settings at. This is done to as best as I can, replicate the tropics on any given sunny day at a 2-3 foot water depth. My T3 settings are for one thing only, getting the light to the coral surfaces to get them to grow, and they are responding well (I see much new white calcium grown at the tips and polyp extention varies per/specimen. There has been no bleaching of any SPS in my tank. My T5 settings really make the aquarium pop during the evening for my wife and kids to enjoy in our living room. For my tank this setting really shows the intensity of what AI's royal blue LED's can do, and at a very low "moon light" setting. I hope this adds to the thread in a positive way and allows others that have made a big investment with Aqua Illumination LED's to see how I use mine. Regards |

I have a few questions. I have a 90g 48x24x18. I originally had a DIY full spectrum Cree led setup on it. Long story short I kept having some issues and decided to go with 2 Sol Blues and 2 110w VHOs. Does anyone have any recommendations on settings I just use? I had a 48 led fixture before with 80 deg optics about 10 in off the water. The sols are about 12 in off the water. I started at 30 40 45 peak and the VHOs on 2 hours in this peak time. To low maybe? SPS don't seem happy

I have had the AI Sol Blue for about 8 months. It is a great light for the money. I use it on a 30g and have no issues with coverage. It sits about 8" above the tank. When I started it out I had it on about 25% and gradually increased it by about 5% each or everyother day. I like the Sol Blue much better than the Sol White. Now the Vega is out so I am waiting to see if it's worth switching to and putting the SOL on my smaller 15g tank.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the royal blue and blue have little or no effect on the corals other than looks correct?

no, your are thinking of actinic. both blue and royal are important for coral growth. actinics still contribute. with my 2 80w actinics on i still have 30 par on the sand bed. some led companies are starting to add uv leds to their fixtures. i think they are on to something. all coral need some uv. |

Has anyone studies the growth effects of each channel? I know that different spectrums of light drastically change how plants grow, so each channel must have different effect on coral as well, no?
I have always had my royals and blue set to 100% and my whites at 50%. My light is about 12inches off the top of the water. I have never done a par reading either. What I can tell you is the visual appeal of the tank with balanced channels is not very appealing. But I do want to optimize growth obviously. |

I've been thinking about making the switch to AIs for my 120g in-wall. I currently have a 2 x 400w MH setup using Lumen Bright Minis.
What is the ideal setup for a 48x24 tank with 2 back overflows and a center brace? Also, are these the only LEDs controllable with the RKE? |

This thread died a tragic death. It was such a beautiful thread to have it's life just ripped away. But I'll add to it.
In the next week I'll upgrade back to a 120 48x24x24tall and toss my T5 wavepoints and add 3 AI Sol Super Blues I will add 2retro fit T5 one on the front and back sides of the sols. The tank has 2 overflows on the back and center brace so the left and right side sols will be run parallel to front glass and the middle will be run front to rear all will be controlled by the new AI controller. Lights will be mounted on top of my canopy pointing in at roughly 7.5-8" above the water line. I have quite a few LPS (frogspawn hammer two huge neon green bubbles size of a basket ball) Some SPS (green monti red cap a acro frag probably a few more) I'm going to start them at 30w 30b 35rb for first 2-3week see how they respond might need a little more if so I'll bump up a few After the first 3 weeks every 2weeks up it 5% Current tank is a standard 90gallon 48x18x21 with 6x 54w t5 wavepoint bulbs G4 skimmer with sedra 5000 pump Jebo return I think it's like 3500gph switch to ReeFlo haven't decided I run carbon About 30gallon sump Thats about it for my 90 The 120 will have ReeFlo pump Carbon G4 skimmer 2x 1" scwd Uv sterilizer 3 sol super blues 2x 54w t5 retro kits incase I decide to sup for red and something else I think that's about it pretty simple nothing crazy I'll add more sps as the wife puts up with it. |

Hello I have a 120 gallon corner tank with two AI super blue fixtures that I mounted in the canopy. I added many frags that are doing great like my zoos. I recently added many acro frags that seem to not open up I have it placed on the top as needed.
these are my current light settings that i took from another user can anyone please help with what changes I should do to help get the acro's to open up. Many thanks > Timer 1 : 8am 10-w , 16-B , 15 -RB 10m ramp > > Timer 2 : 9am 25-w , 20-B , 20- RB 7m ramp > > Timer 3 : 10am 40-w , 30-B , 30 RB 7M ramp > > Timer 4 : 11:30am 60-w , 50-B , 50 RB 15m ramp > > Timer 5 : 12:30pm 70-W , 60-B , 60-RB 10m ramp > > Timer 6 : 1:30pm 74-W , 65-B , 65- RB 7m ramp > > Timer 7 : 2:30pm 80-W , 70-B , 70-RB 5m ramp > > Timer 8 : 3:30pm 90-W , 80-B , 80-RB 7m ramp > > Timer 9 : 5pm - 30-W , 60-B , 60- RB 20m ramp > > Timer 10 : 6pm 30W , 50-B , 70-RB 20m ramp > > Timer 11 : 7pm 7-W , 60-B , 60-RB 15m ramp > > Timer 12 : 8:30pm 0-W , 30-B , 49-RB 7m ramp > > Timer 13 : 9:00pm 0-w , 20-B, 20-B 10m ramp > > Time 14 : all off |

Does any body have experience with chalices. Just bought 4 of them, and put them on ledges in the lower 2/3 of tank. My settings are 58w 87 b 87 rb. I hope they can handle the light. I also placed them on 45 degree angles.

I have several chalices under my blues - I had to move them all around until I found good spots. The key to these is that the center of the lights have smaller focus lenses to penetrate deeper in the tank. That's actually more important than height.
FWIW - I have my chalices about 1/2 way down to the bottom 3rd. None are directly under the lights. I burned the crap out of mine so I'm very cautious with them. Sorry to say that my peak intensity is about 35 w, 45 b, 45 r - for 2 hours. I have about 2 hours prior and post this at about 30/38/38. My lights are 12" above water, chalices about 10" under water - so 22" from lights. I'm still baffled by how folks run these at such high intensities without burning the crap out of their corals. I have about a dozen acros up top that seem to be doing fine in these lights but I'm new with them - so I'm not exactly sure if my growth rate is great or not. They are indeed growing though and the color looks great. FWIW - I supplemented mine with a few stunner strips - 1/2 UV, 1/2 Magenta. These are really high above the water too though so I doubt they're really doing much. I love these lights. I'll post some pics as I'm able. I do feel I'll be upgrading to the Vegas next month though - the price is cheap and I like the deeper blues and color options.

I have my lights 14" awl. My tank is 23" high. I have the chalices on different ledges, have them glued at 45 degree angle. some are 15 below water line to 20 " below water line. I have my lights at w 58, b 87, rb 87 max. I run these settings for 4 hours. I'm watching the chalices real close. Only in there for 2 days. so far so good.I ramp up and down slowly.

See for yourself
I had read this exact posting when I was deciding if I should purchase the AI SOL BLUE less than a year ago... I have alot of individual pictures but to keep it short and simple I'm only going to post a picture of the tank before and after... the top one was taken in August 2012 and this one was taken a couple weeks ago around June 1st 2013... The only coral that has been added to the tank is the small green montipora frag in the bottow right... I would suggest to anyone thinking of buying these lights to just do it, no questions asked... By the way I went from a outer orbit system with 2x MH and the 4 actinic... my electric bill went from $175/month to $80....
Almost forgot this is a 72g bowfront lights are on from noon to 11 but are only at 90% for two to three hours... I will post my actual settings next. |

You can use one controller and daisy chain several lighting units to it. I don't have a wireeess controller though.
