SPS breather days

I recently started setting two non consecutive days a week where my lighting is at 1/4 or less power. I'm wondering if these breather days will have an effect on coral health? In nature endless intense sun doesn't occur very often. Maybe it will give them a chance to rest

Back when I was running halides, I programmed in pseudo-random cloudy days that occurred about once a week (variable - sometimes two in a row, sometimes none for 2 weeks, and anything in between), where just the supplemental lights came on and the halides stayed off. Can’t say if it helped growth or health, but just figured it was a little more natural. Never got around to setting it back up with my new lights on my current tank.

I remember when zoanthids were called things like "green" and "orange" and not "reverse gorilla nipple."

That's a good way to do it, I'm not sure how to set it to random days. I imagine you would get slower growth, but maybe even fish LPS are happier

That's a thought. Think I will implement to see.
