It's important to filter out crap in your tank.

There are many instances where there is crap flying around....only to be cleaned up by the socks.

Change them out once a week and your golden.

Mine are always FILTHY! Get that crap out of my tank!

Also if you have a mistake happen....like my Purigen filter bag broke open and dump 500g of the stuff into the tank.....filter socks cleaned that up quick

And if you can't do maintenance once a week...get another hobby.

I work on my tank daily but only touch the socks on the weekends.

I believe their conclusion was 1-2 week change outs are fine.

Not 2-3 days.

Their conclusion was 3-4 days or more is best..
More often = better..

Detritus,etc... breaks down much faster than 7-14 days..

Those can be very effective/beneficial as they can be adjusted I believe to pull out material quite often and without any work from you..
They have a higher cost but overall maintenance should be far less vs filter socks..
