Kalk adds calcium and alkalinity in the ratio in which corals and coralline consume them. Are you adding any buffer products? They all add alkalinity, and can cause this effect. There are some other stealth sources of alkalinity, like tap water and artificial rock, as well.

Not using any buffers. I do a 25% water change every 3 weeks. Using Io salt. Calcium drops very slowly. Have at least 100 lbs of live rock in a 120 tank and a 30 gal sump/ refugium. Also started adding some acros plenty of soft stuff. Water coming out of RO unit is a 7 dkh.

Huh? RO water will have zero alkalinity. IO saltwater should have alk around 9 dKH.

I agree that 7 dKH is very high for RO water. Is that a typo?
