Ebay buy..and quick question..
Can shrooms move?? I bought this off of ebay. It was sold as a florida ricordea yuma? Also, i had this placed on the rock RIGHT next to the red blastomussa last week. This is where its at now.
It is still attached to the frag plug but its moving somehow? The sand is piling up in front of the plug.

Yes, they can move on their own. Most often you'll see them move right after they split and the two halves move apart.

That's a Ricordia florida, not a yuma, and they do move around very slowly from time to time but generally hold still. It's not going to move around your tanks causing any issues like an anemone would, so no worries there.

Thanks for quick reply. I do see two mouths close to each other. I have tried feeding it to watch and it wont take food. Maybe its still acclimating since i only had it for a week. How does it move if its base is glued to a porcelian plug??
Thanks for clarification of species also...great colors!

They move by walking, which is great since they usually leave a trail of baby Ricordia as they move. Its base isn't glued, the rock its attached to is glued. I'd glue the plug onto a bigger rock, it could be checking out its surroundings and they can jump ship if they feel like there's only sand in every direction.

Glue the plug onto a rock so it knows there's rock around it, low light low/medium flow is a good place to start. As far as jumping ship the polyp can detach and float around your tank looking for another spot to grow, which can be a pain with getting them to reattach sometimes.

people on ebay have this really annoying habit of putting all sorts of names in their auction titles to catch anyone searching for reef stuff. so if they're selling a ricordea florida, they'll put in , ricordea yuma acro scolymia chalice. So make sure you can identify what they are selling, or contact the seller to know exactly what they're selling before you buy.

Be carefully like stated it can moveand will fight with corals itlands next to. The use chemical warfare so you won't see it unti something is hurting.
My guess is it fell off the rock work or a snail/crab/ or fish knocked it down since its still attached to the frag disk. It can't/ is not dragging that around with it as others have leaned towards. |

I have to agree with logansreef. The ricordia is perfectly capable of moving (fairly slowly) but I seriously doubt it's able or willing to move the frag plug too. Something else is moving them around and you should go ahead and attach the plug to your rockwork.

As far as ricordia corals moving, they can sometimes crawl, they also get moved by crabs, or snails, or current. |
