if cashola is not object, then why not get a couple of 6055's which are controllable? or one 6001 on a controller would be a good choice too. the vortech is nice but they are sure taking their own sweet time to bring out a controller?

I thought they came with a controller, well it has variable speeds and it comes with the controller that u can adjust. its that the kind of controller u are talking about.

the 6055s are controllable (variable speed). The 6045s are either on or off. Putting them on a wavemaker isn't advised, but Roger at Tunze has said that if you do make it a minimum of 15 minutes and you need to be careful of chopping up fish that get into them when they are down.

vortech by a mile
two 6045s on a wave maker would be 900gph of alternating flow IE not enough. 6045 is 900gph not 1200 one vortech takes up less space and is 3000 gph.

You will have more control with two tunze, than one bigger Tech. Less dead spots. Go for two 6055's, you would be at 39x's flow.
Also, 6045 has a flow rate of 1189GH. |

2x6055 plus multicontroller is 3000gph for 660 dollars
1x vortech 3000gph less space taken up in tank no power cords in tank 350bucks + 49 for the controller/driver upgrade when its ready. do the math

...plus very very little heat addition. man, those puppies get hot on the outside - to think that internal pumps put that same heat into the water - yikes!
...plus a 30+ hour battery backup option for another $150. |

and you wish the 6045 had that flow rate(it can with a few mods) , us in the know know that its just over 900 and the 6025 is 700+ my setup is great i have a 2x6025 1 6045 and one 6055 on single controller they compliment the vortech well. but the vortech is king |

Let do the math. Two 6055 cost 400.00, a controler 59.00. it's a 50.00 dollars difference. I'll revert back to my orginal post
You will have more control with two tunze, than one bigger Tech. |

never been tunze owner but i can say after putting the vortec into my 120 i have nothing but good to say about it. Its almost silent, moves a ton of water ( not just forward, creats a mean undertow also) ,takes up a small footprint in tank and has a nice control box with a flow dial ( by hand ... about the only draw back and i hear that will be fixed soon with release of a controler from them). we have ours about 7-8 down and at anything higher than 75% will pull air from the top down into twisters of air lol... not to bad for $350.

vortech's have a huge spread, so it moves the water in less concentration, and a lot of gph. which is also why they don't need to be "directed" in terms of where it's pointing. the best would be a wavemaker of sorts, moving the water around back and forth. |

the current put out by the two pumps is very different. the tunzes are more of a jet whereas the vortechs move a more broad column of water. i really believe the comment made earlier about there being dead spots is a moot point with a vortech in the size aquarium the op has listed in his profile - if that's where this is going. |

the best is a wavebox and a 2 vortechs on wireless multicontroleller and a sequence barracuda on a CL but at some point i will draw the line.
not ^ there though that sounds like the perfect amount of flow

eventually i would like to get two more vortechs and place them in the opposite locations, then add a wireless controller to change the direction of the flow every so often. you can "kind of" see my vortechs in this pic, except the vortech under the wavebox is so small that it just perfectly tucks behind the trim around the tank. |

bennyz that is a very very sweet setup. its all about giving the pump room to move water
with rockwork less is more.
