i managed to get the dj power strip in where i wanted it in the side door opening area....but it took some doing cause w/ it's mounting tabs, it was just a bit too long, but chopping just a little bit out of the 2x4s for clearance & it went in but just barely LOL

i have all the pvc parts for it....just need to get to that stage of the build LOL

next step is prep & paint but i seem to have lost motivation here lately i think that is mainly cause i cleaned the parking garage so i can get my car back in there & not wanting to pull the stand & canopy out to paint them....but i have somebody coming to get my old stand & i'm gonna toss all my old scraps & then i can paint in that area & still use my garage LOL

well, i was thinking in my head how i was gonna power everything. i really wanted everything plugged into the dj strip to make it easy to manage, but the thing i kept coming back to is that if it was all plugged into it & it was plugged into a gfci, if the gfci tripped, the whole tank was powered off...which i didn't want.

so i decided to re-think it & ordered (2) of these. they are the same american dj power center, but have 4 plugs instead of 8. so 1/2 the important tank stuff will be on 1 of them & the other 1/2 on the other & each will be plugged into a seperate gfci

problem solved

so i'll probably have an unused american dj 8-plug strip available for sale soon

got the 2 new 4-plug dj strips in yesterday. the location i had the original one, i couldn't get the 2 4-plugs to fit, so i moved them to the front door opening.

the reason they wouldn't fit is the dual ones are angled downward in relation to the face & the plugs are on the top rear edge. they were too wide to fit side-by-side in the door opening & if i tried to stack them, i'd have to leave 3-4" between them & also from the top edge so there would be room to plug & unplug the outlets. stacking them meant taking up almost 1/3 the door opening & i just didn't like the look of it....so in the front & side-by-side they went

1 last thing i have decided to do tomorrow is in the middle pic in the above section, from the center support beam forward about 2/3rd the distance to the backside of the dj strip & the width of the stand, i am gonna attach a piece of wood to give a lil cubby-hole to stuff wires up in.

another thing i have already done is redo the doors. decided to radius cut the part that i had done the edging & flip the door around. the radius would then be on the backside for a hidden fingertip door grap. the 1/2" material wasn't deep enough to get a good grab on the door, so i redid them all out of 3/4" material....that pretty much killed the remaining balance on my home depot gift card LOL

everything is nice & smooth since taking the orbital sander to all the pieces, so once i get the piece to hold the wires out of the way, it'll be time to paint this thing

well my renter's insurance company refused to insure me if i signed such a waiver.....so there ya go
I fight that baloney all the time. What is the point of renter's insurance? It is to cover that sort of thing. Never had um want me to sign a waiver, that is new to me. Anyhow you can darn near park a peterbilt on the second floor. A tank, perpendicular to the floor joists, ain't going through the floor. A 1 ton point load is. So is an A1 Abrams. (Point loaded or not.) Usually I end up with "well anything over x size...." and before they finish, I hand them the policy... and they shut up. So that little tank you have has a better chance of going through than a longer tank. Chuckles. By the way, nice looking stand James, even if you did overkill it with the 2 x 4s..

Jim

painting has commenced

looks like its suppose to be pretty warm next few days, so paint should dry quickly in the parking garage

i already have 2 coats of kilz on all the sides of the small pieces....just need to do 2 coats on the big pieces (stand, canopy & canopy support) & then on to the black paint. hopefully be finished by the weekend

it's drying LOL

i had them tint my kilz w/ some black, so it came out this blueish color, so that was easier to cover.

the stand & canopy had so many freaking nooks & crannies, i thought i'd NEVER get it all covered LOL

all told, all the outside or easily viewable areas got 3-4 coats & the rest....just enough that the primer is covered

hopefully pics tomorrow

You should have painted it before you put it together (or kilzed it) I usually have kilz tinted to a neutral gray. Everything covers that.

i was shooting for the dark grey....not sure how adding black to a white kilz netted a bluebird egg blue (maybe it was the wood?), but that's what i got.

as far as the nooks & crannies, i took stuff like the shelf, dj strip mounting panel, wire cover & even the flip-up front of the canopy apart to make it easier to paint.

the nooks & crannies where areas that were too small for the roller or all the corners & edges where pieces that were impossible to take apart met. painting around all that stuff was mind-numbing LOL

have to look around see if I have the formula for the gray, IIRC there is more than just black in it.... just as there is more than blue if you WANT your kilz a blue tint..... just did that one a few months ago....

i just figured adding some black to white would net grey...was kinda surprised it came out that blue

all i know is it was a hell of a alot easier to cover w/ black than white would've been LOL

.....apparantly the formula for blubird egg blue is 1oz of flat black added to a 32oz can of kilz2

hahahahaha

The paint job looks great.

Side topic, how do you post the thumbnails from Photobucket?

goto account options & in Album Settings there is a "link options". in it under IMG options you check the box that says clickable thumbnails. that gives you the clickable thumbnail for IMG code....you can also do the same for HTML if you want to post thumbnails where you would use html code (like myspace)
