Live Rock Queries
I am new this forum.I am from India where marine aquariums are restricted, however i stepped over loose live rock on a beach known for corals. Brought it home after vacation, dumped it in normal water and left for 2days unintentionally. Lost a hitchhiking small hermit crab that was in the rock due to this . Shifted rock to salt water, and let it cure, all the bad smell of rock is gone after 2 weeks. The rock originally had orange flesh kind of growth, all the orange is gone now. There is some brown hairy growth still left. There is some new green and yellow growth after rock settled in the salt water. Also seeing white tubes protruding from rock, some of them closed later.
As we do not have much marine aquarium community for suppliers, i am just watching as experiment to see where it takes me before trying anything else to invest in salt water hobby. What is the brown growth, should i get rid of it or encourage it (doesnt look like aptasia pics i saw online)? What about green/yellowish algae? The white tubes seem to be opening when they get lights, what are they. Attaching actual pic. |

White tubes would usually just be harmless tube worms..

If you are saying you left it for 2 days in fresh water than nothing on the rock is alive. I would scrub the rock of any debris and place it back in the tank.

Yeah most everything is dead from the 2 days of being in fresh water.
