The death of a brand new peppermint. + an ID request

Got a new peppermint skrimp yesterday at the LFS. He seemed pretty happy in his new home yesterday evening. This morning his tail was sticking out of the side of my MP-40. The head was missing....

Anyone else have this issue? Do I need to put the screen that came with the powerhead on?

ALSO

What are these hitchhikers? Been scraping them out of my tank when they've been caught cruising the glass. They look menacing, so I didn't want to take any chances. They have what looks like armor plating. They roll up into a ball when you catch them. ANd the underside looks somewhat like a snail.

Maybe the shrimp died, got sucked into the powerhead, and a fish came by and snacked on his head?

How long did you acclimate it?

I have no idea on the other thing, looks like a pill bug but clearly not that lol.

Meh,

Unlikely a fish, since the only fish in there is a blenny.

I did only acclimate him for 10-15 mins.

I was in a hurry.

I'm pretty sure he got sucked in though, because he seemed fine when I went to bed..

a healthy shrimp will not get sucked into a pump, it was dieing or dead- likely acclimation shock. Or, just a molt.

Pics are of Chitons- beneficial algae grazers.
