I do 5 to 25% water changes about monthly depending on what I’m trying to accomplish. I have also been experimenting with the Dutch Synthetic Reefing method. My only issue is with test kits. Boron test kits are unavailable in the US and the Salifert iodine test kit I have always reads 0, even with a batch of freshly made Instant ocean ASW. If these two tests weren’t a challenge, I’d be happy with the method. I may have to go back to regular water changes or consider Triton.

I haven't looked into the cost but is the Triton method average cost a month equal out to the cost of water changes or is it way more expensive for say a 50-60 gal?

Automatic water changes on my 180... 2 gallons / day = 60 gallon (30%) monthly.

I always said the art of maintaining aquariums is actually just doing water changes. Fifty percent freshwater, 30% salt, at least once a month. However, I believe really huge systems - 500 gallons or more - need fewer water changes than smaller systems.

I do five gallons every week but that's pretty easy and I only have a 32 g but I can definitely see people not wanting to do 30-40 g water changes that could become a pain in the ***

I do a 30% water change every two weeks.
Can't bring myself to chance dragging it out longer. every two weeks works, so I stick to it. |

I add about 1.5 gals of fresh water every day. This keeps my trace elements level. I keep check on Salinity about twice a week. The only loses I have are due to my star fish attacks

5% to 10% every week. There's tons and tons of stuff going on that we can't test for, some good, some bad. I find the idea that we can "balance" a system with our inability to test for anything really critical and not need to do water changes absurd.

Change carbon, Gfo, and water the first week of the month. About 40 gallons on a 120 gallon system.
