Deep Sand Bed or Shallow Sand Bed or Bare Bottom or Plenum

Do you use a Deep Sand Bed, Shallow Sand Bed, Bare Bottom, or a Plenum?
Why???

I use a shallow sand bed because I don't know any better! When I set it up I bought the setup used and that is what they had. LOL Mike,

i have shallow i think(80lbs in my 90g)i didnt want a real thick layer of sand taking up depth of tank,and i dont like the idea of BB cause it doesnt look natural to me.

I have a deep sand bed. However, When I set up my new tank I am going with a shallow sand bed.

I want something that won't collect detritus (sp?). I figure a shallow sand bed is easy to clean. About BB, just like checkinhawk, I don't like the look of BB and don't think they look natural..

I have a deep sand bed (apprx 4" to 6") in the display tank and 6" in the sump. However, my tomato clown apparently prefers a shallow sand bed as he spends most every day moving as much sand out of his way as possible!

I have a deep sand bed (4-5 inches) of silica sand. Seems to work fine for me.

Dude, that is not remote... it is more like a partial deep sand bed in the display with a BB along the viewing edges...

I HAVE 1 1/2 TO 2 IN SAND BED ISNT DEEP BUT ISNT SHALLOW EITHER ILL POST FEW PICS LATER. WITH MY OLD LIVE SAND AND THAT NEW ARIGONITE SAND WE ALL GOTTEN FROM MIKE AND CO.

I like the look and the what it gives me as far as care for my livestock. With a BB or Shallow bed in reality your livestock is limited - as in corals there are some that must or will do better in sand. Gobies and WRASSES that require sand beds. Yes Mike they sleep in the sand at night not all but most (I hope you're not asking the question for yourself)

. I keep both of the livestock above (Corals and Fish) that either require or do better with sand. Kind of like humans - we can live without furniture but we'd like it better with

. Yea it takes a little more work - clean, dust etc but we still have it.

Deep sand bed. 130 lbs comes out to around 4 inches deep. Why?
Cause that the way mother nature does it.

I'm asking, because it was a suggest educational topic. I'm a DSB fan myself. My 390 display and 35 refugium will have a total of about 750 lbs of sand, both DSB.
I wanted to see what people are using. We'll cover the pros and cons of all 4.
I know that Paul (Hawk'ster) uses a plenum. I did for about 5 years.
