T5 and Actinic

As of yesterday the Powder Blue is eating like normal.

I tested nitrates and to my surprise they're undetectable with my Salifert kit. I was almost sure they were going to be high since I like to feed my tangs a lot.

Red Planets starting to look real nice.

Actinics

Goby and Cardinals are doing great. The yellowing is from some left over furan 2.

Tangs are eating like pigs. Desjardini needs to fatten up but that won't be long. Hes already gained a bit of weight.

I added the Purple and Desjardini yesterday and as I was kind of expecting, all hell broke loose. Nobody pays any attention to the desjardini but the Purple is taking the beating of his life. Yellow keeps him pinned in the corner and the PB keeps doing drive by swipes. Hes got a pretty decent gash on his right side near his tail. Things hopefully seem to be settling down a bit(purple swam around a little when I fed and all was good for a while). My kole tang now has a cut on his right eye. I cant tell if its infected yet but there's a small amount of white stuff hanging off it. I'm assuming he got slashed by the Pb or purple. I guess I'll keep an eye on him and treat in a qt if needed(if I can even catch the thing).

I used Flickr to upload all of the pics except for the last pictures(which are the worst quality compared to the rest btw). For the last pics I just used the "manage attachments" on reef central and uploaded them straight from my phone cause i was lazy. Not sure why the rest aren't showing.... Maybe you need to have a Flickr account? I have no idea haha. Hopefully most people can see the pics or this threads kind of worthless I guess.

I've been enjoying your build. I'm jealous of the size of the tank, all I have is a 90. Glad your tangs are starting to get along. It's always nerve wracking to add new fish and see the balance go out of whack, but what good is a giant new tank if you can't enjoy adding new fish?

I can still see all of your pictures, but I have to sign into Reef Central to be able to see your last 2 sets of pictures- the new fish in QT, and the tangs all eating nori together.

I agree...i have a 215 gal DT and use 2x pp20's and 2x tunze 6105's on seasweeps.

I already ordered one pp20 so im stuck with it haha. Ill look into the tunze, but i figure the pp20s are so cheap that if they break, i could go through 3-4 of them and still spend less than i would for one tunze(unless i bought used like you were saying). I dont have an apex but i want to get one at some point. Just a little too expensive for me right now.
Be careful in purchasing used tunxze pumps.....yes they are great pumps but Roger [of Tunze] told me that the motors are only meant to last around 5 years so ask how old they are and purchase accordingly. I was going to buy some used ones and spoke with him prior. I purchased mine new. Jebao can last a year and then just die.....if you purchase from reefbreeders Logan will sell you a replacement motor for around $35....which isn't bad. But in my experience they only last about a year. You get what you pay for.....check out the quiet one pumps.....jebao pricing but a little more powerful, smaller and are supposed to be more reliable.

My pp20s been a champ so far. If it does go out once a year I could go buy 3 more and still be below the price of a vortech. Although, I may go in the ecotech direction once I have the funds. Pumps working for now

I used to have a 90, luckily had some spare room in the basement to fit this bad boy. The tangs are doing great . They all "shoal" around the tank. Never really leave eachothers siides including the purple. It definitely was nerve wracking because even my kole that was established started getting beat on by my powder once I added the pt and dt. Had a huge gash on his eye.

Sweet thanks for the input on the pictures. I started uploading them straight to reef central because I wasn't sure if people could see the Flickr links. I'll start uploading pics with Flickr again so they're easier to see and better quality.

I used 1 1/2 coming off of the return then it t's into 1 inch. drain is all 1 1/2. I would definitely recommend running your return on the outside of the tank and use all of the drilled holes for drains/emergency drains. My main drain has gotten clogged twice already(well not clogged, but the filter sock was clogged and wouldn't allow water to drain)... If I didnt have the emergency then id probably have 50 gallon of water on the floor. Plumbing size really depends on what return pump you decide to run. My return pushes ~~ 1500gph with head height.

I'm at work right now. There's a bunch of pictures of the sump and plumbing on the first page.

Just out of curiosity does the 300DD center braces have glass in between the braces? (glass on the top). I ask this because I have a 215 with center braces and glass in between and it's a pain keeping that glass algae free.

There's just 2 metal crossbraces. If you want a lid you'll have to make one out of screen or build a canopy.
