How far are you willing to drive? I know of three sandblasting places down here and there is one in Yorkville, have to look up their number though. And a powdercoat place too.

if they are headders please be advised that the right way of doing them is very difficult and should be left to the headder manufactures because of the complexity of powdercoating the inside of the pipes completely .if you have some one else do it get a guarentee or find anothed coater !

meh, guarantees are good always but I would rather go by the coater just because there are tricks to proper coating and manufacturers have it easier due to the capability of doing a full immersion dip after production whereas used ones need to get stripped/blasted and then sprayed on the outside and then "done" on the inside.

then baked.

Guarantees to me always make me think about chris farley talking about them from black sheep.

lulz, I dunno how you guys knew I coated I dont think I ever mentioned it on here. I do a bit of coating on the side here and there.

Tommy: Let's think about this for a sec, Ted, why would somebody put a guarantee on a box? Hmmm, very interesting.
Ted Nelson, Customer: Go on, I'm listening.
Tommy: Here's the way I see it, Ted. Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to fell all warm and toasty inside.
Ted Nelson, Customer: Yeah, makes a man feel good.
Tommy: 'Course it does. Why shouldn't it? Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted?
[chuckles until he sees that Ted is not laughing too]
Ted Nelson, Customer: [impatiently] What's your point?
Tommy: The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy; well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser, and your daughter's knocked up. I seen it a hundred times.
Ted Nelson, Customer: But why do they put a guarantee on the box?
Tommy: Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of ****. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.
Ted Nelson, Customer: [pause] Okay, I'll buy from you.
hehe

and just because the manufacturer coats them doesnt indicate it was done correctly or nicely. i have 2 sets of Dynomax headers that will disprove your statement for my BBC.

i can understand you on that one ,but they should have the proper tools and tecnique just a shotty worker . there are some that are reputable for doing good jobs . my shahl headders are done with a polished coating and they look amazing . they are three or four years old and are race only application but no discoloration yet and no rust to boot !

1 set of headers would of been a shotty worker, 2 sets suggests they dont sandblast them before they coat them.

this is on my offroad truck that spends its life outside, i am guessing your race car is garage kept.

no matter what it is still paint, one scratch and rust will form and destroy the coating.

something that sucks.

they must of have known they had problems. i emailed Dynomax about it and they sent a set to me sight unseen of the old ones, unfortunately the replacement set rusted just as fast as the old ones.

i was thinking that maybe the first set didnt get any heat thru them from the exhaust that i made sure i ran the motor for an hour (open headers of course, neighbors LOVED it) to "bake" them again. no difference.

I found a guy in Streamwood by me to redo the ceramic on my long tubes, he comes highly recommended so I will probably run them over to him....

I know the manufacurer can usually get in there deeper to get the inside of the tubes but its not that huge a deal to me. I got a KILLER deal on a set of longtubes and all they need is to be cleaned up and re-coated..... Saved $150 over the new ones, so I'm happy with that.
