instant oceon discontinued ?

Is instant oceon being discontinued.. my local petsmart whome honors amazon prices i always buy salt from them.. but latetly they havent been stocking it... and they refuse to get rid of the boxes and bags that are hard as a rock from holes.

I talked to the manager and she said its being discontinued..

I checked amazon and i cant find the normal prices for amazon either.. just inflated prices.. like the 50g bag of normal instant oceon was always 11$ now its 22$ at (other) retailers..

Whats going on ?

Yea peices on amazong for reef crystals were 14$ for a 50 gallon bag.. or 54 for a 160 gal bucket.. And the normal instant oceon was like 11$ for a 50 gal bag and 45$ for a 160 bucket.. now the prices are almost double.

Also the prices on amazon arent there anymore... They only have prices for ( other retailers ).. No more amazon prices..

Something is up... either petsmart isnt selling it anymore.. or my petsmart just has a lazy stocking manager which i wouldnt doubt.. Ive repeadidly told them about the hard as rock bags.. They dont care.

But the whole amazon not listing prices anymore has me wondering if its true.. they are discontinuing it or changing something

Most likely changing something. Petsmart I would never buy from that company went downhill and don't care.

I stop buying Instant Ocean or Reef Crystal because they don't bag their salt well at all. I buy b the 200 box. these bad are not air tight much more often than not and salt clumps up and wont dissolves again.
I use Kent Marine salt now, The bag are airtight 100% of the time.
I wrote to IO about this at least twice and never get any answer or see any change in the packing.
I guest they don't pay any attention to customer feedback. It is such a minor cost to the total cost of the salt. I used IO for at least 30+ years until I got too tire of the rock hard salt when I open the box. I often buy 10 boxes at a time.

Get with your local reef club and go to a LFS and do a group buy. I purchased a skid (40 boxes) from a LFS in Columbus for $28 per box

I don't see IO discontinue their salt. I just really wish that they seal their salt bag better. I will go back to IO in a heart beat if they do this.

I hope not IO is all I use. Easiest salt to get ahold of or at least it was.

Just got a new box of IO, a 200 gallon box. Paid $38 offf amazon. Freshly made up salt water had calcium at 330. Other parameters were okay. The box prior to this was 400 ca. Their lack of quality control is driving me nuts.

IO is used by nearly all the aquariums and zoos so I doubt they will be going anywhere

The Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga uses Instant Ocean, or they did when I went behind the scenes years ago. I'd never trust them for a public aquarium as of today.

I got away from IO and Reef Crystals years ago for Fritz Pro. Cheap, always consistent, and levels are on point.

Obviously companies can change over time so I'm not saying it's a holy grail but I just had too many of the same problems you're all experiencing with Reef Crystals. Fritz has helped me keep parameters stable ever since I switched.

Yup, $32 and change off amazon for the 200 gallon box. It’s not getting discontinued.
