I am planning on painting my durso standpipes so they Are not as noticeable. It is my understanding that food grade epoxy paint is safe for reef. Any feedback and links to where I may purchase such paint would be appreciated.

Search the paint on RC but I have seen many say they use it with no problems straight out of the can....

Thank you for contacting the Krylon website. Currently Krylon does not offer a paint or clear coating that is submersible. Consistent submersion will eventually break down and cause the paint film to fail prematurely. The longevity of our coatings would be very limited when used on submersible surfaces or substrates. Thanks again for your inquiry. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns. Sincerely, Kevin Krylon Product Support |

Very sorry to hear about your wife.
krylon....I just put that name in the search area...read the first two threads....there are a ton more and I would even link them but I'm on my iPad sitting on Miami beach....I don't blame the company for their response as I would say the same thing because the risk is too great as it was not designed for water....at the very least you can paint it then use west two part epoxy over it. It's amazing, you would think that two different 1" unions would have the same ID (internal diameter). I bought most of my plumbing from Marine Depot but needed one more 1" union so off to Lowes I went. The photo on top is a 1" Red Flag union from Marine depot. The one on the bottom is from Lowes.

Well tank is filled with test water (will be used for my 6000 gallon koi pond) and running. Not a single leak. Amazed at how quiet it is. I believe the quietness is attributed to the durso standpipes and the four 1.5 inch drains. I estimate to be running at 3000-3500 gph taking into account head pressure of the Dolphin Ampmaster 4750 and turns in plumbing. Tank is running at minimal capacity, considering less than one third the length of the overflow teeth have water and such a small percentage of water is flowing out of the four drains.

Has anyone ever had an external return pump create a continuous wave in the sump? My Dolphin is! Marine Depot says its due to the pump sucking water in and pushing out but MD does not know what would cause it. They referred me to Dolphin and it even stumped them. Awaiting return call.

Do you have valves on the outflow of the pump. Try turning the valves down just a fraction and see if it kills the wave or alters it.

video wont play but that be because of my work system but I can see the wave in the still photo. Hows the out put from the return lines in the tank? Question about the level in the sump though.....its pretty high. Do you have check valves or something to prevent back flow in the event of a power failure? Wouldnt want their to be a flood in the basement because the sump overflowed.

ok got the video to work and that is really weird. Is the water flowing too fast thru the sump and causing the wave action to happen in the final chamber?

Talked to Dolphin again. Problem probably not with the pump but either how water is entering the sump or design of baffles. Will let you all know the mystery later. Thanks for the replies.
