It is human nature to appreciate something more when it has an assigned value versus free. For example, I've given 1 hour of time to a friend to help their aquarium for free and I get a "thanks" and a hand shake. Maybe even a beer. I've given the exact same service to someone else and charged $50 for it, and they were excited to pay me and couldn't stop thanking me for the assistance.

With that said, by offerieng it for $1 it probably stopped him from recieving 27 PM's asking for the free hand out, none of whom which would have showed after 3 PM's back n forth. The 3 people that responded to the $1 add likely all showed up and recieved their $1 worth of chaeto.

Finally, the kid just way overpaid on his new car - he needs to recoup this somehow (just teasing you fragboy)
