I guess I would argue that though. Else you would not have Radions from Ecotech as they were a pump company.

but they come full circle now with the acquisition. that was the whole point. besides, pump technology is way more complicated than building a light.

Still you cant say stay in your lane then use a company who went out of their lane (to much success) and decided to merge with their main rival to form a sort of monopoly on the market at the time.

Soulpatch's 150 SC build

Did not mean to turn this into a debate.

I respect your no nonsense, objective review and the review says it all.

I only expressed my opinion (I started with imho) that I would buy product from a company that specialized in the product, just as I would not get legal advise from a doctor.

Companies can certainly venture into new territories, but acquiring another company will shorten the R&D time, and at the same time acquire patent ownership etc. Apple has the resource to make anything yet they continue to acquire other companies. BTW, monopoly strictly means you can only get a product or service from one source (hence the root word mono). Not the case for ecotech.

Decided that I will send my one WAV in to see what Neptune says the repair will cost. I am not totally thrilled with the unit failing so soon, crashing my 1LINK module which stopped my DOS and other WAV, and no notification.

Due to that I will buy the Coral Box QP16 pumps from coralbox. I am going to grab 2 and do a review on here (full disclosure I will be comped slightly for the review). At first I will have one in the tank opposite the working WAV to compare then I will swap out the WAV for the other Coral Box QP16 Pump.

If the WAV is cheap enough to repair I will have it shipped back and will swap out my PP8s on the back wall for them OR (gasp) sell them to switch to gyres....

Changes incoming with better flow hopefully

We have the same tank and I'm using two Tunze 6095s... one on each side of the tank. I have them set to 80 - 60% pulse on high and 60% on low. By that I mean the right power head hits a peak of 80% to the left side hitting a peak to 60% and they both fall back to 60%. This gives a good stirring during the day and at night they are both at a steady 60%. Just throwing that out there for you to think on. Best of luck!

Yeah I like the durability and power of tunze but for some reason they are never on my radar. Not exactly sure why though.

I miss the gyre I had in my nano. The flow it gave off was incredible. I am thinking of 2 XF250 on the ends eventually with the Coral Box QP16 Pump on the back wall.

Patch, I have your same tank. I have the Maxspect gyre 230 two pump system with both pumps facing each other and the turbulence it creates is awesome. Nice random patterns created by the controller and easy set up also reasonably priced, all that I am happy. But if you need an ultra quiet system I would keep shopping, these pumps whine fairly loud. After a while, they quiet down but not to dead silent.

Sorry to hijack but I just got the Gyre XF-250 and will like to know at what mode you have them and what percent?

Thanks in advance...

Two Coral Box QP16 Pumps ordered so I will be running a test against the current WAV. I will put one unit on the side of tank where broken WAV used to reside. I will put the other Coral Box QP16 Pump directly next to the current WAV so I can do a direct comparison on flow rates and such.

So stay tuned for some videos and other tidbits after I get them in my hands.

Personally, the only wave pump of that style I would go with are the Vortechs. Their compact size putting a huge portion of the pump outside the tank is important. To me, I don't like the long pump in view in the tank. I went with the two gyre pumps, they seem to be more compact spreading out long instaed of coming off the glass.

I'll likely move these to the back wall and put gyres in next year.

Personally I HATE the look of vortechs having the motor on the outside with the cord on the outer glass. Couple that with no ability to aim and wetsides needing replaced every 2 year or so for significant cost and you will never see one on my tank.

Having the gyres is only a one direction flow, having them with some flow off the back would really stir up the action. Especially if done with the correct controller.

I had gyre on my nano. They have reverse if you want to run. I never did. The big benefit compared to other powerheads in the large swath of flow and updraw they produce. Having one anti sync on other end with some powerheads on back wall can produce a ton of turbulence.

Yes, they have easy programming that can do all kinds of movement but it's still left to right or right to left. There's nothing that will really strong it up randomly. Adding pumps 90° to that flow would really do well. Your on the right track if that's the plan.

In my tank, the back wall has a closed loop to go against the gyres on the sides. The center area where the pumps meet is good but nothing unusual would be happening at or under the actual pumps

One has that issue with every pump on market. Every pump simply pushes water in single flow. Only something li le ocean motion or sea swirl really change up flow patterns

At moment I have pp8 on back wall on anti sync, wavs on ends, and sp6 through 2 returns. I have upwards of 14k gph total running in my tank if all pumps max though that doesn't happen. Typically my max on current settings is around 10k as technically both wavs could max at 4k each. Another 2k it so from pp8 and 1k roughly from returns.

Still very impressed with this Coral Box QP16 Pump. On larger size but no more intrusive as my dad's tunze.

Obviously not everyone needs 4000 gph either so their smaller pumps could work as well for many.

Been playing with the modes and find I like the randomness of reef mode the most. I should have time tonight to directly comp to my working WAV so stay tuned for next video

Another video for a direct comp to the WAV... Spoiler alert the Coral Box QP16 Pump is winning...

Some pics today. I switched to only the Coral Box QP16 Pump today and have been very impressed. I do think I will talk to fish street about the apex connector though.
