What eel for new 220?
Hey gang,
I plan on finally getting my 220 filled sometime this month and im starting to think about new fish to put in it along with the fish I already have, and will be transferring to the 220. I want to get an eel but im concerned about it eating attacking my smaller & more docile fish. The fish that will be transferred to the 220 will be- Yellow Tang-about-3", Percula Clown-2", Firefish-2", Cherub Angel-2" Six Line Wrasse-2". So what would be a good eel to go along with these fish? I was thinking Snowflake or Zebra but maybe you guys have others in mind? Feel free to suggest any other fish you think would look cool in the tank. Thanks, |

zebra would be the most harmless good sized eel for your tank.

I seen a very cool looking snowflake at the LFS today it was all black with white splash's, the typical snowflake I see is usually white. Has anyone ever seen this variation/color morph?

Any of the pebble toothed eels are usually pretty good tank mates. You might consider a chain link too.
The worst thing about pebbletoothed eels is that they can/will crawl out. My snowflake experience is that they can sometimes get REALLY aggressive when feeding, but mine were otherwise good. Zebras will go into month long "hibernations" where they are rarely seen and don't eat - this can sometimes happen when they are new and owners freak out about it. Chain link is in the middle, and is not too aggressive at feeding and doesn't fast/hibernate. An oldie, but goodie: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-12/fm/index.php |

I would say go with the zebra, however if you have any considerations of getting a snowflake get the one you mentioned earlier black with white splothces, this is a rare morph, and they are very beautiful. It would make a great addition to your tank as not many people ahve these. it is probably already sold though.

Green Wolf Eel (not actually an Eel, Pseudochromis I believe) can get quite nasty as they get big, I would avoid...I have kept a Snowflake for 5 years and and Goldentail now, I would like your chances with either, but the Zebra is for sure the "safest" with your smaller fish.

BTW, I have had a wolf eel for about 6 years - it has never bothered my smaller aggressive fish like tobies. I've never risked it with other small fish. I think mine may have been the exception, though, and it is the only one I've kept.
