Drilled Bulkhead Size for 220 gallon

Hi,

Should I go for 1 1/2 inch or 1 inch for my 220 gallon tank drilling? Doesn't it make quite the difference regarding overall flowrate?

Also, any downside to using schedule 80 PVC vs. standard PVC?

My 220 has 2 inch drains and 1 1/2 returns. We set up a new DD 250 2 weeks ago and it had 1 1/2 drains from the factory. It really comes down to how much water you want to be changing.

What sort of drain are you building, and what return pump is planned?
On my 75 I have a bean with 1.5in bulkheads. With just a little syncra 3, I have the siphon dialed back to about 75% flow. It wouldn't take a much bigger pump to overcome my drain at max.

A bigger hole can be dialed back with a valve. If it's too small, you could gamble and re-drill bigger, but what a pain that would be.
