Sand bed depth

Hello everyone. I am new to this, and I'm just starting my aquarium. How much sand should I use. I have a 55 gallon tank and was wanting to know your thoughts...

I personally like around 2 inches. Over time the sand will get moved around I have more in some places and less in others. On the home page left hand side about half way down are calculators, one of the is a sandbed calculator. good luck

Shallow: 1"-2"
Deep: 3"-6"

Both types have their own merits. Do some search on Shallow vs Deep sand beds. There is a calculator online to calculate how much sand you need based on the tank dimensions and the desired sand depth.

I am a Remote Deep Sand Bed (RDSB) fan. -Sand in the sump, or such.
From what I've learned about sand and its merits, more is better for tank's stability. HOWEVER, take all that as SECONDARY.
First of all make the tank LOOK GOOD to YOU! -If you like zero sand that's ok too.
Have fun!
