Solaris I5 72 inch
Been out of the loop for a while. I have 210 Gallon reef that has not been maintained for a while. Thinking of breaking it down and starting over. My Solaris still works flawless. It just seemed corals really never thrived with this light. When the whites were ramped up it was very bright but not appealing to the eyes. Should I just sell the unit and buy all new lights or maybe supplement this unit with T5s or something else. Any suggestions is appreciated.
Thanks, Daren |

I'm not familiar with that light but many people are supplementing LEDs with T5 bulbs now to help increase coloration and growth..
As for what to do.. Well.. Thats your decision

Daren, you will not get much for that light, & to be honest I wish I still had mine.
The I-5 was made to simulate a 12-14 K look. What I found was Magnesium was low & coral growth nil. After making it right I had big colonies when I sold the house. My 2 Cents

I would try to sell it before the LED's start burning out. There was a following of Solaris owners that buy them for spare parts, maybe they are still looking for these lights.
You would be better off buying newer lights, there are so many nice ones to choose from. |

I remember when I bought my Solaris, it was $4k. What a giant paperweight it turned out to be!

Vinny, I sold mine for $250 years ago when parts like driver boards were impossible to get.
I think that I gave Wingo more money than that for replacing individual diodes at one point. The only good thing about the I5 series was the Meanwell power supplies! |
